Scroll through social media on any given summer weekend, and chances are you will come across vibrant photo dumps from luxe couples’ trips to the Caribbean, stories revealing getaways to Martha’s Vineyard, TikTok dances on yachts in Miami, scenes from beach clubs in Portugal, or some other footage of travelers jet-setting across the globe. Black travel is on the rise, and the tourism dollars reflect it.
In 2025, according to data from MMGY Travel Intelligence and the Black Travel Alliance, Black tourism was on track to generate more than $145 billion. The growth of travel groups like Black Travelers International, Sisters Traveling Solo, and Luxe Tribes, along with publications like Travel Noire, has also made planning and navigating travel for Black tourists more accessible. Meanwhile, Black travel influencers are expanding our imaginations with content spanning solo adventures, soft-life girls’ trips, family getaways, and everything in between.

Yet where Black travelers are going is only part of the story. Why we are traveling may be even more fascinating.
The latest research from MMGY Travel Intelligence, the Black Travel Alliance, and even a recent report from BLK (the dating app) shows Black travelers are increasingly choosing destinations that offer connection to the Black diaspora, a welcoming atmosphere, Black-owned businesses, heritage experiences, and luxury wellness escapes. From domestic favorites to destinations across Europe, Africa, and the Caribbean, today’s travel itineraries range from solo adventures and girls’ trips to multigenerational vacations, with many travelers embracing “soft life” getaways focused on rest and relaxation. Here’s where Black travelers are heading in 2026 and what’s drawing them there.
In the U.S.
Atlanta
The ATL remains a favorite among Black travelers, and for good reason. Between its incredible Black-owned restaurants, opportunities to encounter Black celebs, nightlife, shopping, rich history, and culture, it’s a city where you can fill an entire itinerary without ever running out of things to do.
New Orleans
Whether you’re planning a girls’ trip or simply looking for a weekend full of incredible food, music, and culture, New Orleans rarely disappoints. Annual events like the Essence Festival of Culture make it practically a no-brainer for thousands of Black travelers every summer.
Miami
If your ideal vacation includes yacht days, rooftop dinners, white parties, beach clubs, and dancing until well past 2 a.m., Miami belongs on your list. The city also hosts major festivals, conferences, and events throughout the year, like the American Black Film Festival, that continue to draw Black visitors from across the country.
Washington, DC
Few cities blend Black history and modern culture quite like the nation’s capital. Once known as “Chocolate City” and home to Mecca—Howard University—families can spend days exploring world-class museums for free, historic neighborhoods like the U Street Corridor, taking in music or entertainment at one of the many venues, and visiting monuments and kid-friendly attractions before enjoying the city’s diverse food scene.
New York City
There really isn’t anywhere else like New York in the summer. From happening upon live jazz in Central Park to one-of-a-kind fashions in Harlem to Broadway, world-famous restaurants, art, and endless neighborhood gems, you could visit again and again and still discover something new in the city that never sleeps.
Savannah
Savannah is as much about slowing down as it is sightseeing. Along with its picturesque streets and waterfront views, the city offers opportunities to explore Gullah Geechee history and support a growing number of Black-owned businesses.
Martha’s Vineyard
Martha’s Vineyard has long been one of the country’s most beloved summer destinations for Black families, professionals, and friend groups. Between the beaches, Oak Bluffs’ rich history and the sense of community, it’s easy to see why so many people return to this coastal enclave year after year.
Chicago
Chicago has always been worth the trip for its food, music, and architecture, and now the newly opened Obama Presidential Center gives travelers another reason to add it to their list.
Houston
Houston has become one of the country’s top destinations for food lovers. Pair its incredible Black-owned restaurants with museums, nightlife, and a thriving arts scene, and it’s easy to build a long weekend around it.
The U.S. Virgin Islands
Made up of St. Thomas, St. John, St. Croix, and Water Island, the U.S. Virgin Islands remain among the Caribbean’s hidden gems. U.S. travelers don’t need a passport to visit this predominantly Black territory, where stunning beaches, rich Caribbean culture, and powerful stories of resistance and emancipation make for a vacation that’s equal parts relaxing and meaningful.

Ghana
Ghana routinely lands near the top of international travel lists for Black travelers. Beyond its deep connection to the diaspora and powerful sites like Cape Coast Castle, its beautiful beaches, vibrant arts scene, and rich culture make it an unforgettable summer getaway.
Dubai
If luxury is the assignment, Dubai understands. Think five-star hotels, desert safaris, beach clubs, rooftop dining, and over-the-top experiences that make it a favorite for birthdays, girls’ trips, and milestone celebrations.
Portugal
Portugal has become one of Europe’s hottest destinations thanks to its beautiful coastline, incredible food, and relatively affordable prices. Lisbon and Porto offer plenty of history, nightlife, and charm without the price tag of some of Europe’s bigger cities.
Japan
Many Black travelers already have a deep appreciation for Japanese culture, art, and entertainment, so it’s hardly surprising that Japan is growing in popularity as a destination. From Tokyo’s electric energy to Kyoto’s temples, the country offers incredible food, fashion, history, and experiences that feel unlike anywhere else.
Jamaica
Whether you’re looking for an all-inclusive escape or a chance to connect with Caribbean culture, Jamaica remains a go-to. Beautiful beaches, reggae, jerk cuisine, and endless island vibes make it an obvious favorite.
Barbados
Barbados is equal parts luxury and laid-back island life. Between its stunning beaches, vibrant food scene, and rich Afro-Caribbean history, it’s easy to see why so many travelers keep coming back.
Morocco
Morocco is for travelers craving a little adventure. Wander colorful markets, stay in stunning riads, ride camels through the desert, and take in a culture and landscape that feel completely different from everyday life.
