Some characters simply stumble into godlike strength by chance, mutation, or even better, narrative convenience, leaving everyone else to struggle to keep up.
For these characters, there is no grind, meditation, or powerful technique that took years to master. Their dominance simply happens, reshaping entire worlds without the discipline of effort that usually defines shonen arcs. Nonetheless, these figures remain captivating precisely because of their logic-defying abilities, serving as proof that destiny or absurd circumstance can sometimes simply outweigh hard work.
Subaru Natsuki – Re: Zero
Re: Zero’s Subaru Natsuki is transported after death to a fantasy world without warning or information except one rather excruciating ability: “Return by Death.” For Subaru, each time he dies, time resets to an earlier point, allowing him to return to an unspecified save point before his death.
From the moment it's activated, his journey becomes one of despair, resilience, and the slow accumulation of knowledge through endless failure and trauma. In addition to being one of anime’s most broken abilities, Subaru’s power requires no training, only survival.
Conceptually, “Return by Death” makes him invincible because no mistake is final, nor is any outcome permanent. He gains insight unattainable to others by learning from every scenario through trial and error. While others bleed for experience, Subaru resurrects and rewrites the timeline until success is guaranteed.
Denji – Chainsaw Man
Within the world of Chainsaw Man, Denji starts as a desperate and frail teenager working for the Yakuza to pay off his father’s debts. His only companion is Pochita, the doglike chainsaw devil that just so happens to be the most menacing devil to exist.
After being betrayed and murdered, Denji merges with Pochita, transforming into the Chainsaw Man, a hybrid devil whose body sprouts roaring chainsaw blades. What follows for Denji is not training or a manual on his newfound power, but chaos as he slaughters devils for survival and the chance of a normal life.
From a frail savage into an unstoppable force at the top of the devil rankings, Denji’s rise to power is not instantaneous, nor does it make any sense. Summarily, unless repeatedly dying can count as training, Denji doesn’t grow through practice; he simply learns how to keep swinging until reality bends around him.
Shinichi Izumi – Parasyte
In Parasyte, Shinichi Izumi is an ordinary high schooler until he becomes an unwilling host to Migi, a parasitic alien that burrows into his right hand rather than taking over his brain. The unlikely merger between the pair grants him heightened reflexes, superhuman perception, and strength far beyond human limits.
The story follows his uneasy coexistence with Migi as they navigate moral boundaries, survival, and the nature of identity. Shinichi’s transformation grants him power overnight. Without lifting a weight or honing a skill, he acquires precision and durability capable of dismembering other parasites in seconds.
At one point, Shinichi outruns and kills a parasite operating at full strength, a feat that shocks even the most trained military forces. His composure, vision, and healing all accelerate without effort. Most notably, what makes him overpowered is the absurd equilibrium between human empathy and alien efficiency. A merger that nature itself cannot replicate, achieved purely by accident.
Tetsuo Shima - Akira
Akira’s Tetsuo Shima begins as a member of a biker gang, overshadowed by his leader and childhood friend, Kaneda. His life changes after a collision with a mysterious Esper that awakens his destructive psychic powers. As his abilities grow uncontrollably, Tetsuo becomes the story’s cataclysm, a child given godhood without guidance, threatening to erase Tokyo in his own existential rage.
Tetsuo’s strength comes from no effort of his own; his esper abilities simply expand until he can level armies, tear matter apart at will, and even create his universe. His body evolves beyond human comprehension, capable of warping space and giving birth to new dimensions.
Concisely, Tetsuo is merely a cosmic accident of unchecked power, though still absurdly powerful. Compared to Goku’s years of disciplined fighting and constant training, Tetsuo achieves similar destruction by simply existing, proving that the greatest dangers often come from those who never learned control.
Ken Kaneki - Tokyo Ghoul
The protagonist of the Tokyo Ghoul series, Ken Kaneki, is initially a quiet literature college student who becomes a half-ghoul after a surgery gone wrong. The transplanted organs he receives from the famously violent ghoul, Rize Kamishiro, transform him into a hybrid predator who must consume flesh to survive.

He doesn’t train, meditate, or study anything; his explosions of psychic energy occur naturally when his emotions reach 100%.
At peak capacity, Mob controls gravity, matter, and even souls. Ironically, Mob never wanted power; he only wanted a normal teenage life. Consequently, that detachment makes his strength even more overwhelming, as control remains the only challenge left for someone who never had to earn it.
Meliodas - The Seven Deadly Sins
The leader of the Seven Deadly Sins, Meliodas, first appears as a carefree tavern owner hiding immense power. Once the leader of the Ten Commandments and heir to the Demon King, Meliodas carries centuries of battle experience and demonic heritage.
The story follows his redemption, love, and the cursed immortality binding him to endless conflict and reincarnation. From the story, Meliodas’s godlike strength is innate. Born the Demon King’s son, his physical might, speed, and “Full Counter” technique make him almost untouchable.
His demonic form annihilates armies and kingdoms with ease, and his immortality allows him to return from any death. Against trained warriors, Meliodas wins through his divine birthright alone, his strength serving as a constant reminder that destiny can surpass even the most arduous efforts.
Rimuru Tempest - That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime
The Chaos Creator, Rimuru’s story begins as an ordinary salaryman who dies and is reborn as a blue slime in a fantasy world. From that moment, what seemed like a comedic start turns divine when Rimuru discovers his innate ability of absorption and begins to absorb monsters, skills, and magic, evolving into a being whose intellect and strength surpass even those of the gods.
The series chronicles his rise as a benevolent ruler of monsters and architect of an entire civilization. Rimuru’s strength arrives through absorption rather than practice. Each victorious encounter grants him new skills automatically, whether it be regeneration, elemental magic, or analytical omniscience.
His “Azathoth” and Wise One” abilities let him consume and understand any power instantly, and by the time he ascends to Demon Lord status, he can erase armies and reality itself in seconds. In essence, Rimuru’s power journey reads like a tutorial in overpowered convenience: power gained through passive experience, not active mastery.
Saitama - One Punch Man
The parodic protagonist of the One Punch Man series, Saitama, begins as an ordinary man seeking purpose through heroism. Bored with life and seeking a battle thrill, he trains for fun, doing one hundred push-ups, sit-ups, squats, and daily runs.
Ironically, the joke is that his “training” makes him the most powerful being in existence. Every opponent, no matter how immense, falls in a single punch, leaving him frustrated by eternal boredom. Plainly, Saitama’s overpowered nature redefines the concept of power. His strength breaks all narrative logic.
True to the series' intent, his “training” is symbolic rather than real because the story mocks the entire notion of earned strength. Ultimately, Saitama doesn’t improve because he can’t; his character design simply makes him the ultimate arbiter of overpowered absurdity.
Alucard - Hellsing Ultimate
The trump card of the Hellsing Organization, as well as its ultimate weapon against supernatural threats, Alucard is one of the three main protagonists of the Hellsing series. Bound by loyalty, the centuries-old Alucard hunts the undead and humans alike with the confidence of one who has defeated death.
The series portrays him as both executioner and philosopher, embodying the arrogance of immortality and the joy of combat. Depicted as the oldest vampire alive, Alucard’s power is unmatched and effortless. He regenerates from annihilation, commands an army of absorbed souls, and wields reality-bending weapons.
Born of a marriage between the cursed immortality of centuries of occult research and his vampiric nature, Alucard’s strength is intrinsic. Even when dismembered or reduced to dust, he reconstitutes himself with a grin. That precisely is what qualifies as stupidly overpowered.
