A Walgreens customer was left stunned after an order for emergency contraception was replaced with an unexpected product, in a viral Reddit post.
User hadeswhore_ shared a screenshot of a receipt showing that she had ordered Plan B, an emergency contraceptive pill used to help prevent pregnancy after unprotected sex or contraceptive failure. However, when the retailer was unable to fulfill the order, the receipt showed a different item had been added to the basket instead: Pre-Seed fertility lubricant, a product marketed to support conception.
“That’s pretty much the complete opposite of what we’re going for [at the minute],” she wrote. “To me it felt like a sick joke.”
In a separate post, she states she is 17 weeks postpartum.
“I did choose a replacement option of an off brand contraceptive if the name brand was out of stock,” she continued.
The shopper later said the experience became even more confusing when her husband went to the store to return the lubricant.
She stated that the emergency contraceptive was actually available and located “right at the checkout counter behind the clerk.”

Reproductive Care Access Remains a Divisive Issue
The incident struck a nerve online at a time when access to reproductive health care remains a politically charged issue across the U.S.
Following the Supreme Court’s 2022 decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, a number of states enacted restrictions or bans on abortion, while debates over access to contraception and other reproductive health services have continued nationwide.
Despite those divisions, polling suggests there is widespread support for access to emergency contraception.
A January 2026 survey conducted by Impact Research and Echelon Insights on behalf of Center Forward found that 83 percent of voters agreed that emergency contraception, such as Plan B, should be easily accessible for women.
Support extended across party lines, with 72 percent of Republican voters also saying it should be readily available.
The survey also pointed to concerns about women’s health care in the U.S. Respondents said the health care system was doing a poor job of meeting women’s needs during several key stages of life, including the postpartum period (38 percent), while seeking to prevent pregnancy (35 percent), and in the years surrounding menopause (41 percent).
Gen Z and Millennial voters were particularly likely to say the system falls short during reproductive years.
For the Reddit user, the mix-up came at a time when avoiding another pregnancy was especially important, given that she had recently given birth.
Reddit Users Question Whether the Error Was Accidental
Many commenters expressed disbelief that a fertility-related product could be substituted for emergency contraception and speculated about how the mistake occurred.
“Either they’re a dumbass shopper or they’re against pro-choice and a woman’s right to choose what happens with her own body and took it in their own hands,” one user wrote.
A second commenter added: “Unfortunately that was there way of telling you they’re pro-life,” they wrote.
Others were more direct in questioning the circumstances behind the replacement.
“That seems intentional,” another user commented.
While there is no evidence that the substitution was deliberate, the incident has fueled discussion about how pharmacies handle out-of-stock reproductive health products and whether replacement systems are adequately designed to prevent inappropriate alternatives from being selected.
