Sophie Cunningham was among the top vote-getters in the second returns of fan voting for the WNBA All-Star Game. The Indiana Fever star ranked 15th across the entire league with 237,526 votes — a testament to her immense popularity.
However, fan votes only made up 50% of the total tally. Active players and a select group of media members each comprised 25%.
In the end, Cunningham was left off the final All-Star roster. In truth, this isn’t a complete shock, considering how the 6-foot-1 guard is currently averaging 9.4 points, 2.3 rebounds and 1.2 assists in 23.0 minutes off the bench. The eight-year veteran has never been voted an All-Star throughout her career.

What stands out for Cunningham this season, however, is her efficiency from beyond the arc. In 25 games played this season, the 29-year-old is knocking down a career-best 43.7% from distance with 1.8 triples per game.
As a matter of fact, Cunningham is No. 2 in the WNBA in 3-point percentage. She trails teammate Aliyah Boston, who is making 1.3 threes per contest on a 46.9% clip.
Nevertheless, Cunningham will not be taking part in this year’s All-Star 3-Point Contest. The WNBA announced the participants on Monday, and the Fever star was left off the list. This was much to the dismay of fans who were hoping to see Cunningham test her skills against the best in the league.
“Ridiculous. The @WNBA is not a serious league. What a complete joke,” a comment on X read.
“Ughh this is disappointing, would have loved to see Sophie shoot,” another said.

” a user wrote.
“Welcome to the W, where politics seems to matter more than basketball,” a reaction read.
“Are you kidding me!?! Does the league even want eyeballs,” said another.
“Really?! This league cannot be taken serious,” a supporter declared.
Cunningham could still make the short trip to United Center in Chicago to take part in the festivities. However, she will be there as a fan rather than a participant.
Cunningham will potentially cheer on Fever teammates Caitlin Clark, Aliyah Boston and Kelsey Mitchell, who are all part of the All-Star Game.
