Riot Fest has packed its lineup for 2026, with the Pixies, the Sex Pistols (sans Johnny Rotten), Patti Smith, and… William Shatner? The 95-year-old actor/space tourist/horse semen owner/singer and his heavy metal band the *uckers - the asterisk appears to actually be part of the name, not censorship - will perform live for the first time at the three-day annual music festival. Riot Fest, known more for punk than metal, booked Shatner "[a]fter years of persistent letter writing."

"… Shatner will take the stage with an all-star band featuring Marcus Nand, Phil Soussan, Britt Lightning, and Fred Aching to perform reimagined songs from his musical catalog and preview tracks from his upcoming heavy metal album," according to the announcement.

Festival organizers shared Shatner's tongue-in-cheek concert rider, which requires that Riot Fest provide, among other things,

One (1) Montreal Canadiens hockey sweater signed by John Stamos (who performed at Riot Fest 2025, as a result of a previous letter-writing campaign), eight (8) pallets of Faygo (Not to be shared with Insane Clown Posse), and an assortment of adoptable puppies, sourced from a reputable local animal rescue nonprofit.

The band's debut album was announced in February, but details have not yet been released. Let's be honest, though. Does anyone need details to decide if they want to listen to a heavy metal band led by William Shatner?

As much as I loved my Light Phone II, the slow and frustrating e-ink screen ground me down; with OLED, the main tradeoff for responsiveness and clarity will be shorter battery life. — Read the rest The post Light Flip is a minimalist phone...

North Korea's fake village with painted-on windows

From the South Korean side of the DMZ you can look through binoculars at a tidy North Korean town - bright blue roofs, multicolored walls, a childcare center, schools, a hospital. Kijŏng-dong is a stage set. The buildings are concrete shells with no glass in the windows, and some of the windows are just painted on. — Read the rest The post North Korea's fake village with painted-on windows appeared first on Boing Boing.
