WithCJ Williamsgraduating, rising senior wide receiver Caden High projects to take on a much bigger role in the Stanford offense. As a matter of fact, he’s the top returning receiver on the team, totaling 37 receptions last season for 414 yards and one touchdown. That makes him the projected top receiver on the team for the 2026 season.
Listed at 5’10”, 165 pounds, High did an amazing job of making the leap from the FCS level at South Carolina State to the FBS level at Stanford. As the season went on, he became more and more reliable. In the 30-29 win over San Jose State, he had five receptions for 110 yards including a dramatic 34 yard reception on 4 and 10 to keep the game-winning drive alive. He also had a second 100+ yard receiving game at North Carolina in which he hauled in a career-high 10 receptions for 102 yards. When given the chance, High showed that he’s not afraid to be a go-to option and get a lot of targets.

What makes High such an effective receiver, is his speed, route running, and reliable hands:
Starting with his speed, one obviously has to be fast in order to play wide receiver when you are his size. There’s no way you’re playing at this level at that size unless you have lightning speed and he’s got that in spades. His speed allows him to gain separation against defensive backs and find the holes in the defense. When you line him up in the slot, he can be a nightmare for opposing defenses to contain.
While having great speed is a must, one must also have the agility, precision, and IQ to be a good route runner and High has that as well. His amazing fourth down conversion against San Jose State was a perfectly timed route. All season long, he did a wonderful job of running the routes he was supposed to and being in the right place at the right time.
As for his reliable hands, that fourth down conversion against San Jose State was absolutely clutch. It would have been easy for him to drop that pass. Instead, he hauled it in and made what was one of the biggest plays of the entire season. He’s shown that he can be relied upon to make crucial catches.
Not to throw shade at former quarterbacks Ben Gulbranson and Elijah Brown, but it’s not like High had the best guys throwing him the ball. Assuming Michigan transfer Davis Warren will be better, that alone should help High take his game to even greater heights.
On top of being a great receiver last season, High was also a weapon in the return game with 12 kick returns for 237 yards. High has a good feel for being a returner and has all the tools to make an even bigger impact in that area as well. I feel like it’s been a while since Stanford had an impact return guy. High has a chance to fill a very important need there as well.
Looking ahead to 2026, I’m excited to see what Caden High does now that he has a year under his belt. He should be more confident in his abilities and be an even bigger weapon than he was before. I don’t see why he can’t get to the 750-900 receiving yard range next season and put himself in the conversation for being one of the best receivers in the ACC. Especially if the quarterback play is indeed improved.
