Regularly eating peaches can enhance your skin, heart, and digestive health due to their rich content of vitamins, antioxidants, and fiber. This low-calorie fruit also supports hydration and may help prevent diseases such as cancer and heart disease.

1. Your Skin Health Is Supported

Peaches contain vitamin C and beta-carotene (an antioxidant that your body turns into vitamin A). The combination of these nutrients can help support healthy, glowing skin.

Specifically, vitamin C helps build collagen and skin elasticity. Beta-carotene may also protect skin from sun damage and improve overall skin health.

2. Your Hydration Needs Are Supported

Staying hydrated is crucial because your body’s cells, tissues, and organs need water to function properly. Each peach provides about 130 grams of water to help maintain hydration.

The natural sugars and minerals in peaches may also aid your body in absorbing and using water more effectively than plain water.

3. Your Digestion Benefits From Fiber

One peach contains about 2.2 g of dietary fiber. Fiber supports gut health, prevents constipation, and promotes regular bowel movements.

The high water content in peaches can help your body break down food and keep things moving through your digestive system.

4. Your Heart Health Is Supported

Peaches are rich in potassium and antioxidants. Potassium helps relax the blood vessels and regulates your heart rate. The antioxidants in peaches may also help lessen inflammation that could lead to heart problems.

Some lab studies suggest that peach compounds may help lower LDL (bad) cholesterol levels and raise HDL (good cholesterol) levels. However, more human studies are needed.

5. Your Weight Management Benefits

Fruits, like peaches, are generally low-calorie, nutrient-dense foods. One medium peach contains about 50 calories. Consuming this fruit regularly can help you maintain a healthy weight.

Peaches can also satisfy a sweet craving without added sugars, fats, sodium, or artificial ingredients.

6. Your Cancer Risk May Be Reduced

The vitamins, antioxidants, and plant compounds in peaches may help prevent cancer. Peaches are loaded with vitamin C, beta-carotene, and polyphenols, which can help fight free radicals in your body. The natural compounds in peaches also lower inflammation.

Some lab studies have suggested that peach extracts may slow the growth of cancer cells, especially in colon and breast cancers. However, more research is needed.

7. You Have Less Risk of Eye Disease

Peaches contain special antioxidants like lutein, zeaxanthin, and beta-carotene, which help protect your eyes from damage. Beta-carotene is important for good vision, especially in low-light settings. Some research suggests that consuming high amounts of lutein and zeaxanthin reduces a person’s risk of cataracts and age-related macular degeneration (AMD).

8. Your Immune Health Is Boosted

Consuming peaches may help you boost your immune health. Antioxidants in the fruit prompt your body to produce white blood cells that fight infection. They can also reduce inflammation. Additionally, some studies show that compounds in peaches fight bacteria.

9. Your Allergy Symptoms May Be Relieved

Some research suggests that peaches may help reduce allergy symptoms. The natural antioxidants in the fruit lessen inflammation, which could calm your body’s immune response to allergies.

One study found that peach seed extracts can prevent the release of histamines (chemicals the body makes to fight off allergens) in the blood.

How Can You Incorporate Peaches Into Your Diet?

You can slice peaches up and enjoy them on their own. Some other ways to incorporate the fruit into your diet include:

  • Adding peaches to a fruit salad
  • Putting peaches in your favorite smoothie
  • Mixing peaches into cereals, oatmeal, cottage cheese, or yogurt dishes
  • Topping pancakes or waffles with peaches
  • Grilling peaches and adding them to your favorite dish
  • Mixing peaches into your favorite baked goods recipe

Potential Risks and Considerations

Peaches are generally safe to eat. However, you may need to limit your consumption or avoid peaches altogether if you:

  • Have an allergy to peaches
  • Take certain medications like diuretics
  • Have irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) or another type of digestive disorder that’s worsened by peaches
