Tennessee Titans quarterbackCam Ward is known for a lot of things, including being the number one pick in the 2025 NFL Draft and his time with the Miami Hurricanes. However, the NFL quarterback, who attended West Columbia (Texas), has added a new honor to his career.
Following a recent report from WSMV4 reporter Chris Harris, it was revealed that the NFL star has had a street renamed for his accolades in the NFL. During his time as a high school football star, the Titans quarterback spent four years with the Roughnecks, graduating in 2020.

“Titans quarterback Cam Ward enters his second NFL season with an off-the-field accolade. His hometown of West Columbia, Texas, is renaming a street after him. The West Columbia City Council voted to rename North 17th Street to Cam Ward Way.” WSMV4 revealed.
In his senior year in West Columbia under head coach Brent Mascheck, Ward guided the school to a co-district title alongside Needville (Texas). During that season, Ward completed 49 passes for 948 yards and eight touchdowns.
After four years with the Roughnecks, the NFL star was an unranked prospect coming out of high school. Across his entire high school football career, the number one pick in the 2025 NFL Draft completed 141 passes for 2,261 yards and 17 touchdowns.
“It was crappy. Whatever word you want to use. It was. But in the long term, it helped him become the player and the man he is today. It’s a great story, one that should be told for kids who aren’t getting recruited, who are getting overlooked.” Mascheck revealed in an interview with the Athletic.
Since Ward’s graduation, after Mascheck finished his final year with a 5-6 record, under current head coach Earnest Pena, the Roughnecks have gone through a small resurgence period. Over the last two years, the Roughnecks have had back-to-back 8-4 seasons.
Going 8-4 last year during the 2025 season, senior quarterback Cade Thoe stepped into the role that used to belong to Ward, throwing for 1729 yards and 21 touchdowns.
Entering the next Texas high school football season, West Columbus will graduate a significant amount of talent. This includes their starting quarterback and starting receiving core, following the graduation of Logan Lewis and three-star dual-threat prospect Mudassir Abdullah.
However, Pena does already have an heir apparent ready to step up into the role vacated by Thoe as the next quarterback at West Columbia to walk down Cam Ward way. In 2025, junior QB Greyson Nugent stepped into the role with just four attempted passes, going four for four with 130 yards and two touchdowns.
After his brief cameo across the 2025 Texas high school football season, Nugent will most likely star as the starting quarterback for West Columbia this year. The Roughnecks kick off their season with a scrimmage against Columbus (Texas) on August 13th.
