The View’s Joy Behar tried to make out with actor Anson Mount on Wednesday’s show, pulling the married guest in for a kiss on the lips to cheers from the audience and shock from her fellow co-hosts.
Mount, famous for his roles in Star Trek: Discovery and Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, was making his rounds with the show’s anchors at the start of his interview when the awkward moment occurred. He gave Whoopi Goldberg a peck on the cheek and shook hands with Sara Haines before Behar gave him a cheek kiss of her own, subsequently pulling him in tightly for one on the lips.
Mount has been married to his wife, Darah Trang, since 2018, while Behar married her longtime partner, Steve Janowitz, in 2011.
After the kiss, Mount looked visibly flustered, despite the wild cheers from the audience. Behar’s co-hosts looked stunned as well, with Haines’ mouth agape, Sunny Hostin pointing at the smooch, and Alyssa Farah Griffin covering her face with her hands.
“Wow,” Mount said with a shrug as he sat between Behar and Hostin, wiping red lipstick from his face. Hostin handed him a tissue to help with the job.
“Good morning, Anson,” said Goldberg, with Farah Griffin adding, “Welcome.”
“What? What? What?” chimed in Behar to the reactions from the crowd.
“No wonder Joy has been talking about you all morning,” Hostin dished.
“You know something?” said Behar. “I’m old, but I’m not dead.”
“That’s it, Joy, because I am,” responded Mount, as Behar playfully shoved him.
The co-hosts continued to cite Behar’s excitement “all morning” for Mount’s appearance on the show, before Goldberg attempted, fruitlessly, to pivot back to the interview at hand.
“Are you okay?” Goldberg then asked Behar.
“Yeah, I just need a little bit of a [make-up] touch-up,” she said. “Last time he was here, he brought me flowers for my birthday, and it’s never been the same between us.”
Mount countered, “Well, I got married, so —”
“I know. That’s what I mean,” responded Behar.
