Chaos at Fury FC 121

A melee almost broke out following the co-main event of Fury FC 121.

19-year-old bantamweight prospect Jay Alderete faced UFC veteran Cameron Smotherman on Sunday’s card in Houston and got the finish in Round 2. After Alderete dropped Smotherman with a head kick, he secured a nasty D’arce choke, putting Smotherman to sleep to cap off a crazy fight. Alderete appeared to give Smotherman the D-X crotch chop, then proceeded to talk trash to his opponent after Smotherman got back to his feet, and security had to intervene.

Check out the ending to the fight below.

Smotherman kept trying to get back to the cage to get his hands on Alderete, but security remained tight. The bout was mired in a bit of controversy after Alderete committed a number of low blow fouls — including a brutal low kick that landed flush and badly hurt Smotherman in Round 1, and a point was not taken. As the action continued, both fighters jawed the other with a double knockdown.

In the beginning of Round 2, Alderete landed another brutal low kick below the belt that sent Smotherman to the canvas. The referee finally took a point. Smotherman was starting to pull away as the round continued, but another low blow from Alderete stopped the action, but no point was taken this time. When the action resumed, Alderete landed the head kick that led to the stoppage.

Smotherman reacted to how the fight went on his Instagram stories.

It was, by far, the best win on Alderete’s résumé, who has now finished five of six opponents as a pro. Many wanted to see Alderete tested after the combined record of his previous opponents was 9-23, and “Crack” showed he can hang, although it wasn’t the clean win he was probably hoping for.

Now Alderete — who certainly has a bright future ahead — wants his shot at the UFC, as he had the crowd chanting following the win.

Boxing star Hannah Rapp was killed while biking after boyfriend made perfectly innocent gesture at reckless driver: cops

It’s a gesture that any cyclist has probably made at a car that veered too close — and cops say it cost boxing star Hannah Rapp her life. Rapp, 26, an up-and-coming featherweight fighter, was cycling along a two-lane highway, FM 159, in Brazos County, Texas, on Saturday, when investigators say 31-year-old Charles Medina overtook her and her boyfriend Will Pollalis in his car with just a foot to spare. Pollalis yelled at the driver and raised his...
