American cyclist Brandon McNulty was not seriously hurt in an apparent road rage incident before Tuesday's time trial at the Tour de France in Evian-les-Bains, according to multiple reports.

As McNulty was on his way to the start of stage 16, he was reportedly knocked off his bike by an angry motorist.

McNulty, 28, is a member of UAE Team Emirates XRG and a teammate of overall race leader Tadej Pogacar.

"He was just riding his bike with one car behind him. A normal car, we don't know who they are," team principal Mauro Gianetti told The Athletic. "And when he (McNulty) overtook, he just stopped the car, and Brandon was unable to prevent himself riding into it."
