Walmart customers across the United States are being warned about a phone scam involving a fake $919.45 purchase alert designed to trick people into sharing sensitive financial information.
Fake Walmart Robocalls Claim Large PlayStation Purchase
The scam involves automated calls claiming that a suspicious Walmart account purchase has been made. The recorded message states that a PlayStation 5 and 3D headset costing $919.45 have allegedly been ordered using the recipient’s Walmart account.
The caller then instructs people who did not make the purchase to press a number or call back to cancel the transaction. The message is designed to create urgency by using a large dollar amount and encouraging people to react immediately.
Fraudsters Target Victims Through Fake Support Calls
People who return the call may be connected to scammers pretending to be Walmart support representatives. According to a warning from the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), fraudsters may attempt to collect banking details, credit card information or other personal data.
Cybersecurity officials have also warned that scammers may request remote access to a victim’s device while pretending to help cancel the order or issue a refund. The New Jersey Cybersecurity and Communications Integration Cell said this type of access could allow criminals to install malware, steal information or demand payments.
Some scams also involve convincing victims to purchase gift cards as part of a fake refund process.

Reports of the same PlayStation purchase scam have appeared online for several years. Some consumers have shared warnings after family members, including older relatives, received similar calls and were close to responding to the fraud attempt.

With scams continuing to cost consumers billions of dollars each year, cybersecurity experts recommend verifying any unusual account activity through official company channels before taking action.
