United States economy estimated to have earned 11-figure boost thanks to 2026 World Cup

This summer’s World Cup brought thousands upon thousands of fans from across the globe to North America.

The bulk of the tournament’s matches, including last week’s final, were held in the United States, giving visitors plenty of opportunities to spend their money in local bars, restaurants, hotels and more.

Now, just how impactful the 2026 World Cup has been for the American economy has been shared.

World Cup brings in $20,000,000,000 to the American economy

Fox Business explained the boost via X/Twitter: “The economic impact of the 2026 FIFA World Cup stretches far beyond the stadium gates.

“Bank of America estimates the tournament has generated a $20 billion boost for the U.S. economy, helping fuel the strongest surge in consumer spending in more than four years.

“According to CEO Brian Moynihan, host cities like Kansas City saw spending outpace other parts of the country as fans flocked to bars, restaurants, and local businesses, and those fans are also spending 5% to 6% more than a year ago.”

It is not just the American economy that has benefited from the United States being one of the hosts of the 2026 World Cup, though.

Ahead of the tournament, Fox secured the TV rights for the games for $485m.

But after the success of the competition in North America, the US World Cup TV rights package could fetch $3bn for the 2030 tournament, which is being held in Spain, Portugal and Morocco.
