A British electric taxi firm has agreed to a £10million package of government support, enabling it to create thousands of jobs.
Vertical Aerospace said it was in ‘advanced discussions’ over the subsidies. It is understood to have now agreed to the amount of money required, but technical details are yet to have been ironed out.
Bosses had previously feared they may have to develop manufacturing capacity for their electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft overseas.
Vertical chief executive Stuart Simpson said: ‘This is a major vote of confidence from the Government in Vertical, in our aerospace sector and in the UK’s opportunity to lead the next generation of aviation.
‘It means we will continue to create high-value jobs and build aircraft that will be exported to customers around the world.’
In Hampshire, Vertical yesterday completed the first public eVTOL flight.
