President Donald Trump on Thursday said the U.S. and Saudi Arabia civilian nuclear deal will only go ahead if Riyadh joins the Abraham Accords — the U.S.-brokered agreements that formalized relations with Israel.
In a Truth Social post, Trump also said the deal would not permit uranium enrichment.
A landmark deal was signed, seen as a pathway for Saudi Arabia to build a uranium enrichment facility.
“The Civil Nuclear Deal (There will be no enrichment of material!) being made between the United States Department of Energy and Saudi Arabia, which pertains only to non-military use such as the ones that Iran and UAE (and others) already have, will be approved, but is totally subject to Saudi Arabia joining the very respected and successful Abraham Accords,” Trump wrote. “The United States is not opposed to Civil (Non-Enriched) Nuclear Facilities.”

Saudi Arabia has repeatedly rebuffed U.S. attempts to get the kingdom’s leaders to sign on to the Abraham Accords, which normalized commercial and diplomatic ties between Israel and a trio of Arab nations during Trump’s first term.
