When should Americans begin to see these supposed savings?

Interior Secretary Doug Burgum made some wild claims about energy savings during a Fox Business appearance on Monday as nationwide gas prices again hit $4 per gallon amid renewed fighting with Iran.

“We’re already saving Americans billions of dollars because we’ve got business leaders like President Trump driving our energy policy,” Burgum said.

He also noted that oil and gas prices will begin to decline today because of Trump’s energy policies, citing potential ways to bypass the Strait of Hormuz, but offered few details on how that would happen.

“President Trump is the one leader who knows how to get prices down,” Burgum said.

Despite Burgum’s assurances, the nationwide average for a gallon of gas continues to rise, hitting $4.003 on Monday, according to AAA.

Brent crude oil, the benchmark for global oil prices, also ticked higher, rising to $88 per barrel as of Monday evening as the U.S. continued to launch strikes against Iran.

Control of the Strait of Hormuz, through which 20% of the global oil supply was transported before the U.S.-Israeli war on Iran, remains the central point of contention in the conflict.
