President Donald Trump celebrated on Wednesday the victory of Congressman Abe Hamadeh in the Republican primaries in Arizona’s 8th congressional district, claiming it was a win over Democrats. His posts raised eyebrows, as only Republicans were able to run in the contest.
The president took to Truth Social on Wednesday morning to celebrate the victory, posting that the Republican victories in the primaries were evidence that voters rejected Democratic ideology.
“MAGA CANDIDATES WON EVERYTHING LAST NIGHT IN ARIZONA, A COMPLETE SWEEP!!! I WON ARIZONA 18 MONTHS AGO. THE DUMOCRATS ARE DUMBFOUNDED. AFTER DECADES, ARIZONA IS BECOMING A REPUBLICAN STATE. CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL!” Trump wrote.

In another post, Trump celebrated Hamadeh’s win, posting a graphic of himself and the congressman that read he was “endorsed by President Trump!”
Users on social media quickly expressed confusion at Trump’s euphoria and comments toward Democrats. Arizona’s contests on Tuesday were primary elections and only members of each party were allowed to run and vote in their respective elections, meaning Republicans and Democrats did not face each other.
“Trump is bragging about Republicans winning REPUBLICAN PRIMARY elections,” one confused user wrote on X. “What are the odds?”
“Claiming that the win in a republican primaries is a win over democrats, is like boxer claiming he won a sparring with a sparring partner from his team and deserves a heavyweight title for this,” another user argued.
“Dementia Don can’t tell the difference between a primary and general election anymore,” the Lincoln Project, a political action committee ran by moderate conservatives and former Republican Party members who oppose President Trump, posted.
Adding to the user’s confusion was the fact that Hamadeh ran unopposed in his primary, meaning that he was guaranteed a victory on Tuesday.
“He ran unopposed,” Meidas Touch Editor-in-Chief Ron Filipkowski pointed out.
“Does Trump realize that it was a GOP primary? He's acting like these are actual midterm results,” another confused user replied.
In the Democratic side of the race, long-haul trucker Bernadette Greene-Placentia won her primary with 65.1% of the vote. She was running against a conservationist who has previously worked in the private sector. He acquired 34.9% of the vote.
Despite the lack of contest, Hamadeh’s office also took to X to celebrate the congressman’s victory, describing the Republican as an “America First warrior.”
“Thank you to the incredible patriots of Arizona’s 8th Congressional District for renominating America First warrior Congressman Abe Hamadeh!” his office posted. “Abe will keep fighting for secure borders, economic strength, and our freedoms, delivering real results for AZ-08 families every day.”
Hamadeh is a staunch Trump ally who has often supported some of the president’s most controversial stances. On Wednesday, he urged Congress to pass the SAVE America Act, a piece of legislation that would require proof of U.S. citizenship when registering to vote in U.S. federal elections, a move that critics say would unfairly disenfranchise Americans.
Likewise, he recently issued a statement in support of Andrew and Tristan Tate, two ultra-conservative influencers who face extradition to the U.K. after British authorities issued 38 new charges related to sex trafficking and indecent images of a child.
“As a former prosecutor, I understand the importance of protecting Americans in times of crisis. The US Constitution is the greatest protection in the world for its citizens. The Tate brothers are American citizens and so they deserve full American Constitutional protections - which means innocent until proven guilty. No American court has charged them with a crime despite years of false alarms and innuendos. They’ve been deplatformed, debanked, arrested, and still no convictions - something President Trump has endured for years,” Hamadeh wrote on X.
