This rolling Igloo cooler glides across sand like a suitcase—and keeps drinks cold in a 95-degree heatwave

Whether you’re beaching, road-tripping, or camping, it’s designed to travel just as well as your luggage.

Whether you’re beaching, road-tripping, or camping, it’s designed to travel just as well as your luggage.

As someone who grew up 15 minutes from the beach, I’ve practically earned an honorary degree in beach packing. I’ve perfected the list down to a science, leaving room for everything from sunscreen and snacks to the “Does anyone have...?” requests that inevitably come my way. But if there’s one essential you can’t afford to overlook, it’s how you pack your food. Because nothing is more disappointing than finally claiming the perfect spot, setting up your chairs and umbrella, and biting into the soggy, lukewarm sandwich you’ve been looking forward to all morning.

When Igloo launched a wheeled version of its Tag Along Too Cooler earlier this year, I knew it had to accompany me this summer. I was immediately sold on the Barbie-pink colorway, which has sadly since sold out, yet the real standout feature across all the available options is the four 360-degree spinner wheels that make the long, scorching trek across the sand far less of a workout. Plus, it’s exceptional at keeping drinks and snacks perfectly ice-cold until you’re ready to dig in.

Just like my favorite suitcase, the Igloo Tag Along Too Spinner Cooler glides effortlessly wherever I take it. While most hardside coolers have two wheels, this one boasts four 360-degree spinner wheels, designed to roll smoothly across pavement, grass, and packed sand—a feature one review compared to the quality of a premium carry-on. You can even loop your beach bag straps over the telescoping handle and wheel everything together as you would in the airport, eliminating the awkward hauling that comes with traditional bulky coolers and leaving you hands-free for chairs, towels, and everything else on your beach packing list.

Weighing just 15 pounds, this 20-quart cooler is impressively lightweight. I brought it on a three-hour road trip from New York City to Newport, R.I., and had no trouble lifting and unloading it from the trunk, whether it was empty or fully packed. The two molded-in side handles make carrying it even easier, too, offering two methods of seamless transport. And when you’re not on the move, the wheels can lock in place, which was exceptionally useful on the way to Newport as I never had to worry about it shifting or toppling over in the trunk.

The removable snack basket and drink tub ended up being one of my favorite features. Normally, with hardside wheeling coolers, you’re left with one main compartment for everything, resulting in crushed chip bags, waterlogged sandwiches, and a frustrating game of unpacking everything for just one snack.

Thankfully, the included baskets in the Igloo Tag Along Too Spinner Cooler kept our sandwiches and snacks elevated above the ice—a detail that made a huge difference come lunchtime. And considering my family and I visited Newport during a 95-degree heatwave, I was genuinely impressed when we unpacked ice-cold sandwiches hours later thanks to the fully insulated body and lid.

If you plan to remove and replace the baskets throughout the day, keep in mind that the ice can shift around. Since there aren’t any dividers inside, pulling out the basket causes the ice to slide into the empty space, making it a bit tricky to fit the basket back in. To avoid the hassle, I recommend positioning the baskets first, then filling the cooler with ice and leaving everything in place for the duration of the trip.

For my family of four, the cooler comfortably fit four plastic water bottles, four sandwiches, and a handful of snacks. That said, I wouldn’t rely on it as your only food storage for a full beach day. Once we added a generous amount of ice and packed the removable organizers, bulkier items like chip bags and napkins had to be stashed in a separate tote. For a small-group weekend getaway, beach picnic, or half-day excursion, though, the capacity felt just right—just don’t expect it to accommodate everything for a larger crowd or party.

The Igloo Tag Along Too Spinner Cooler doesn’t just perform—it looks good doing it. Shoppers praise the cooler’s “fun and function,” saying they’ve “never gotten so many compliments on a cooler before,” describing it as a “total showstopper.” Although the hot pink colorway is sold out, other summer-ready colors are just as suitable for your next vacation, like the dusted grape and lagoon teal

At $130, the Igloo Tag Along Too Spinner Cooler is also refreshingly affordable compared to other hard-sided coolers with similar features. Between the suitcase-inspired wheels, lightweight build, and thoughtful organization, it’s become one of those beach day must-haves I know I’ll reach for all season long. Whether I’m wheeling it across boardwalks, sandy shores, or pool decks, it makes hauling food and drinks feel less like a chore—which is what summer is about.
