If you're an angler, this place will have you hooked. Torch Lake is well-known for its plentiful stock of trout, large muskies, and whitefish. You can also find plenty of relaxing beaches and quiet parks along the lake, perfect for those looking for a place to picnic away from the crowds. Torch Lake Townships Day Park on the northwest shore is one such destination where you can wade in the water or go for a swim in the buoyed area.

Pontoon boats and jet skis can be rented at multiple places along the lake, and driven out to the Torch Lake Sandbar on the Southern end. Be sure to bring plenty of water, snacks, sunscreen, and floaties for little ones before embarking on your adventure, and consider keeping devices in a waterproof phone bag.

When Is the Best Time to Visit Torch Lake?

Searching for Michigan summer destinations? Michigan's Torch Lake is wonderful to visit in July and August, when the summer temperatures peak. The normally chilly waters reach their warmest during this sunny season, making them ideal for swimming, paddle boarding, and kayaking. Considered the most popular season to visit this lake, the crowds are at their height during this time.

To those who prefer a more relaxed experience, May and June are an ideal time to visit for boating and fishing. While the water is generally too cold for swimming, the scene is much more peaceful. In fall, the foliage is stunning as well, making the lake a beautiful backdrop for shutterbugs. Both spring and fall are spectacular times of year for hiking in this area, as on the Torch Lake Nature Preserve Trail.
