This editor-loved air purifier works within seconds on odors, allergens, and more

It’s quiet, easy to use, and has an aesthetic appeal.

When it comes to cleaning, my mom is somehow ahead of her time. While air purifiers have become more of a normal household standard, she has been using them in the spaces she works and lives in since the 2000s. And I have adopted that practice and have one in every room, which has been a game changer since I work from home.

One in every room may sound excessive—and you might not need that. But, for me? Let me tell you something: When you have a serious ragweed pollen allergy and overall bad sinuses, it’s a must. My allergies are severe enough that my ENT recommended that I get allergen immunotherapy injections, but I’ve been able to “cure” myself of symptoms by simply utilizing an air purifier.

My latest favorite is this model, and I was eager to try it out for myself. Priced at $339, it’s become a staple in my home office setup, and I can already tell it’s going to be one I recommend for years to come.

Life is truly better when you aren’t constantly sneezing, itching, and tearing up while clinging to tissues, eyedrops, and nasal sprays for dear life—not to mention the regular routine of nasal rinses.

I received the Coway Airmega 350 for testing, but I’ve previously used (and still use) several models of the South Korean brand for a good chunk of my life. Over two months of testing, I moved the Airmega 350 around different areas of my home to test its abilities.

It went in my home office, the basement, kitchen, and one of the bedrooms. But the most dramatic differences I noticed were in the kitchen and basement. Our open floor plan kitchen and living room space is around 700 square feet, so I placed the Airmega 350 at the edge of the room perimeter to see how it can handle the room. (It’s designed for up to 2,640-square-foot rooms.)

When it came to cooking fish, the air purifier started to immediately dial up its power. Literally within seconds, it went from glowing the “clean” blue light to pulsing a pink light to indicate the real-time purification process. And the air was back to being “blue” before the meals were even plated and served. It gets a bit loud on the pink, but when it’s blue it’s pretty much silent.

I also love to spritz and refresh my perfume before I head out the side door, which is located on the complete opposite side of where the air purifier was, and the Airmega 350 caught the scent particles in under 20 seconds and started purifying the air. The purifier glowed the clean blue light before I even left the house.

I wound up unintentionally testing it with pets, too. A friend stayed with me for a week with her cat, which has severe allergies, and both she and her cat (yes, the cat, too) had zero allergy symptoms for the week they were with me. The cat went from regularly sneezing in their own apartment to not emitting a single sneeze while in my home.

In addition to the color light indicators (blue, green, yellow, and pink), the touch display located at the top of the purifier shows the air quality level and has a nicely designed “menu” where you can set the timer, adjust the fan speed, choose a mode (I usually have it on auto), and adjust the light brightness. There’s also an indicator that informs you of the status of the three-in-1 filter (a pre-filter, carbon filter, and HEPA filter included), so no guesswork is involved for when you need to swap it out.

Installing and removing the filter is also super easy; just gently pull back the back panel of the air purifier, pull out the used air purifier, and then replace it with a new one.

While design isn’t always my first priority, the Airmega 350 gets major points for its sleek, modern look. It really is one of the most aesthetically pleasing air purifiers I’ve owned and tested, so it doesn’t even feel like an eyesore in a space. I own the white, but this model also comes in a soft beige.

Coway is a brand I’ve been loyal to for years, and my high hopes for this model only indicate that I’ll keep using Coway’s air purifiers. Get one for your own home (or it would make a great housewarming gift!). For other Real Simple-editor favorites, keep reading below.
