This $15 skin care hack has helped me save hundreds on eye masks—and makes my serums work twice as hard

A dermatologist explains why they work so well.

As a new mom, I find that I barely have time to wash my face these days, but my skin care routine has always been part of my self-care regimen. One step I’ve been indulging in when I can is using face masks and under-eye patches. Mostly because even if I only got five hours of sleep, I want to at least look like I’ve gotten eight. Cocokind’s Reusable Under-Eye Patches have been helping me keep these dark circles and my dry skin in check. (I was also getting sick of the extra waste I created with the typical hydrogel versions.)

They’re not just a more environmentally friendly option. The “silicone provides gentle mechanical smoothing of the skin” and “creates an occlusive barrier,” which helps seal in product, shares Dr. Viktoryia Kazlouskaya, board-certified cosmetic dermatologist and owner of Dermatology Circle PLLC clinic in New York.

So, “hydrating ingredients such as hyaluronic acid, glycerin, ceramides, and peptides work very well under silicone patches,” Kazlouskaya continues. While it’s nice to be able to use almost any of my favorite under-eye creams with Cocokind’s Reusable Under-Eye Patches, Kazlouskaya warns to “be cautious with retinoids, as they can be irritating, especially under occlusion.”

She also stresses caution with exfoliating acids and high concentrations of vitamin C, which can cause irritation, particularly for sensitive skin types.

Every brand seems to have its own under‑eye masks these days, but I love that these silicone patches let me put my already overflowing stash of serums and moisturizers to work. Lately, I’ve been rotating between the Vichy LiftActiv Collagen Specialist 16 Eye Cream and the Cocokind Revitalizing Eye Cream. According to the brand, you can use the eye masks for up to 20 minutes. I use an under-eye cream every day, but I use it with the patches for a boost a few times a week, and I’ve noticed a major difference in brightening and firming the area.

I like to start my quiet morning with a cup of coffee, then I’ll use the Cocokind patches while I sip on my cold brew and answer emails. They even fit comfortably under my glasses. Once I’m done, I’ll quickly wash them with my face cleanser or antibacterial soap, let them air-dry, and then place them back on the plastic film and store them in their tin for safekeeping.

I’ll take these $15 patches over single-use options any day. These have become my go‑to on those early mornings when sleep was more of a suggestion than a reality, thanks to my sweet baby, who hasn’t mastered sleeping through the night just yet. It’s a small thing, but it makes me feel like myself again.

I’m a longtime fan of Cocokind’s gentle yet effective lineup of products. If you’re looking to round out your routine, here are some of the brand’s best‑selling botanical formulas.
