With summer around the corner, you know it’s time to start searching for the best bikini brands.

Sure, we’re still in the weird part of spring where the weather can’t make up its mind, and it’s hard to imagine frolicking on the beach. Still, the time will come when you’ll be packing your bags and jetting off to vacation or some rooftop hotel, and you’ll need a swimsuit.

Though we love one-piece swimwear and affordable swimsuits under $35, bikinis are the quintessential summer staple that, impressively, come in a variety of styles to suit your body type, making you feel and look great.

The struggle can certainly be real, which is why I’ve been long-term testing bikinis for three years straight. Yes, the process came with some trial and error but that’s the beauty of this review. Here, I provide notes on sizing, fit and more from top brands like Cupshe, Lily Pulitzer and more.

Paired with the beach cover-ups (and, of course, facial sunscreens and mineral SPF for protection), these bikinis are pure magic — and you should definitely rock them this season.

Pros:

• Large assortment of fun colors, prints and styles
• Incredible fabric that’s perfect for all types of wear
• Mix and Match sizing is ideal for those with a smaller top and larger bottom or visa versa
• Excellent value for the price
• Most items under $50

Cons:

At this point I have more than a dozen Cupshe bikinis. Whether I’m off on a European vacation or hitting up my sister’s backyard pool 5 minutes from my house, chances are I’m wearing Cupshe.

I find all of its suits to be flattering and highly comfortable. Plus, they’re so affordable compared to shop other shops, so I know the value is there.

Specifically, I love the beach-ready Sundown Swim Geo Bikini Set ($39) that comes in lovely pink hues and hugs in all the right places. Another option we love is the Lighthearted Blue Bikini Set ($29) that makes any day feel like a pool day.

Lulus has my heart — whether I’m shopping for nude heels, linen pants or seamless bodysuits. It’s also tried-and-true in my wardrobe for work and vacation clothes alike. And, its bikini selection is just as good.

For a jaw-dropping color, grab the Mykonos Muse Turquoise Underwire Bikini Top ($34) with its stretchy fabric and adjustable straps. Of course, the matching bottoms complete the look.

If you prefer a resort-ready, sexy look, the Aloha White Orange Print Underwire Bikini Top ($39) is the way to go, with its removable padding and wide straps. Shown above (right side), it’s available in six shades, while its matching bottoms ($25), offer flattering coverage for any place you’re sporting the tropical look.

OK, if you’ve been sleeping on Amazon, it’s time to wake up. The sells-everything retailer we all know and love has hidden gems as far as bikinis go, including the best-selling Mooslover High-Waisted Bikini ($26) and Blooming Jelly High-Waisted Bikini ($36).

It’s hands-down the best place to find bikini brands if you’re ballin on a budget — or if you need swimwear fast (thank you, Prime!) With endless options, it’s a no-brainer destination.

AMAZON Best Bikini Brand for Big Busts: Abercrombie

Pros:

• One of the most comfortable fabrics
• Great for basics
• One of the best for support

Cons:

• Most styles are not the best for plus sizes
• Huge sellout risk

Abercrombie’s having a comeback (though I don’t think its cult-favorite classic styles ever left). Currently, I’m adoring the brand’s ribbed materials that feel like I’m wearing an extremely comfortable loungewear set every time.

One of my favorites is the Curve Love Wide Strap Underwire Bikini Top ($33) and the matching Mid Rise High-Leg Moderate Bottom ($24). As a D-cup, I love the support Abercrombie’s materials and tops provide, along with how flattering the bottoms are. For instance, they’re high-leg to offer that magazine-worthy look but also are one of the few that provide adequate coverage while doing so.

Not to mention, the Crochet-Style Wide Strap Underwire Bikini Top ($39) is one of my favorites, complete with the matching Crochet-Style Mid Rise High-Leg Moderate Bottom ($30).

For the price, Abercrombie has quality fabrics that are both supportive and extremely comfortable. The retailer tends to focus on solid colors and subtle patterns (nothing too vibrant or flashy) but that goes back to Abercrombie’s timeless appeal.

ABERCROMBIE Best Active Bikini Brand: Summersault

Pros:

• Plenty of styles to choose from
• Comfortable fabrics and a sweet range of colors
• Durable material
• Styles available for those with a long torso

Cons:

• All styles have a similar look, which may be a put-off for those who prefer lots of variety

Everyone knows Summersault swimwear and for good reason. The brand is known for its unique designs, most of which feature colorblocking and one-shoulder suits. Multiple people on our team on at least one look from the retailer and adore it for its durable, high-quality feel.

As far as bikinis are concerned, Summersault has plenty of options, including The Wrap High Leg High Rise Bikini Bottom ($60), which offers full coverage and extra compression. It goes with The Perfect Wrap Bikini Top ($65), which features wide, adjustable straps and ample chest support.

Another option is The Cinched Square Neck Tankini ($85), sure to be a favorite of those who like to keep things modest. It comes in black, as well a purple color called ‘sprtiz,’ and goes with The Ruffled High Leg High Rise Bikini Bottom ($18), as well as many other bikini briefs.

SUMMERSAULT Best Sexy Bikini Brand: Frankies Bikinis

Pros:

For those not afraid to shake what their mama gave them, Frankies Bikinis are the way to go. Formed by a mother and daughter duo back in 2012, the brand is known for its on-trend looks and innovative fabrics, including SoftSwim Fabric that’s buttery, flexible, and perfect for swim time and out of the pool play.

If you’re on the busty side, I suggest the Frankies Bikinis x Paige Lorenze Forever Wrap Satin Top ($120)

which lifts and supports while showcasing a ’60s silhouette. Its perfect match is found in the Forever Satin Bottom ($95) which also comes in a variety of other prints, and has 20% spandex that smooths any bumps or lumps.

For ladies keeping it simple, shop the brand’s Forever Collection, which features a variety of solid colored two-pieces in different cuts and shapes. Whether you prefer a halter bikini top, a triangle-style, or something that could be a dupe for your favorite strapless bra, it’s there!

FRANKIES BIKINIS Best Plus Size Bikini Brand: Dippin Daisys

Pros:

• Items sell out fast!

Until all brands see the value of inclusivity, we’ll continue to sing the praises of the ones that do. Case in point, Dippin Daisys and its stellar selection of bikinis for all body types!

While we wish the retailer showed more plus-size models, it does go up to size 3X, and the looks are far from shapeless and frumpy. We love the Palm Triangle Bikini Top ($56) made with comfortable material and offering a mid-coverage fit. The matching Bondi Cheeky Bikini Bottom ($56) has the sweetest design.

Red bikinis are one of our favorite beach looks, especially if they’re as comfy and bright as the Eze Super Cheeky Bikini Bottom ($56). The matching Le Plage Triangle Bikini Top ($56) completes the look.

DIPPIN DAISYS Best Australian Bikini Brand: Zimmerman

Pros:

• Designer brand
• Lightweight and durable material with a buttery feel
• Exceptional quality

Cons:

• Expensive
• Very limited size range

Australian swimwear is known for its quality, flexibility and sustainable-leaning craftsmanship. Is it a little pricier? Yes, but it’s worth the splurge if you’re searching for a swimsuit for a special occasion or simply want something that will last for years.

Zimmerman is our top pick, featuring bikinis that we’d proudly wear out of the water and onto the street. Its Solstice Scarf Tie Bikini ($295) is one of our all-time favorites, with its tie-front and back clasp closure. Honestly, we’d wear it with a pair of jeans and go dancing in it — it’s that flexible.

For something even more luxe, go for the Sundance Knot Bandeau Bikini ($450). It’s one of the most unique bikinis we’ve seen (almost too fabulous to splash around in!)

ZIMMERMAN REVOLVE Best Designer Bikini Brand: Lily Pulitzer

I’ve been a fan of Lily Pulitzer since high school when I carried its beach-printed agenda and accessories with me to school. Ever since, I’ve been shopping its earrings, bikinis, clothing and other well-made items that have a hint of Southern charm.

While Lily Pulitzer doesn’t have hundreds of options to choose from, the brand is truly “quality over quantity.” It’s also a remarkable destination for more modest bikinis that cover more of your bottom and offer more support up top, like the Andarna Bikini Top ($118) and Harlan Bikini Top ($118). Both suits are ones we’re glossing over.

The brand, at large, tends to be more of a splurge than other retailers but the quality is one of the best. These bikinis will last you for years, and the prints are also only found at Lily.

LILY PULITZER How we tested

After reviewing bikinis consistently for three years, I now have a bucket of styles that come in handy for all of my pool and beach days. However, the process at large took some trial and error, so here’s what I kept in mind for each bikini brand:

• Quality: For each brand, I assessed each one’s particular style and how they were made. Of course, high-quality fabrics typically lend themselves to lasting longer in your wardrobe.
• Style: This depends largely on personal preference, though I looked for retailers with minimal and more elaborate designs alike.
• Fit: Bikinis are one of those items that you want to not only fit but fit well.
• Support: Whether you have a larger chest or a smaller one, you want a bikini that’ll stay on all day and not look frumpy.
• Comfort: Along with support, comfortability is important, especially if you’ll be sporting the style for the majority of the day. Characteristics that tend to make a bikini more comfortable include adjustable straps, tie waists and integrated padding.
• Value: Some brands offer two-for-one sets, while others require you to purchase your top and bottoms separately. I took both of these options into account and assessed price in comparison to the overall quality.
