Former Tennessee Volunteers cornerback Rickey Gibson transferred to Texas A&M earlier this offseason.
The Tennessee Vols lost a talented cornerback this offseason when Rickey Gibson unexpectedly entered the transfer portal.
Gibson, who suffered a season-ending injury in Tennessee’s first game of the 2025 season, landed with the Texas A&M Aggies.
On Monday, at SEC Media Days in Tampa, Vols running back DeSean Bishop was asked about Gibson and what the Aggies are getting in the former Vol.
“Shout out Rickey, that’s my dog,” said Bishop. “I miss you, man. It’s all love to him. He’s a good competitor and a good guy. I believe he’s gonna make tons of plays over there at Texas A&M. They’re getting a good guy. It hurt to see him go, but I wish him the best of luck this season.”
Gibson has NFL talent, so losing him certainly hurts. But the Vols were fortunate to land Auburn transfer Kayin Lee, who is expected to start opposite Ty Redmond for Tennessee this fall.
"He's a strong Cover 2 corner with good speed and footwork," wrote ESPN’s Steve Muench of Lee this offseason. "He is physical with receivers in press; excels at rerouting and gaining leverage. Lee is at his best when keeping the ball in front of him, but transitions and closes quickly. He's competitive when targeted and will go up and fight for the high-point ball. Lee possesses very good eye discipline and is instinctive. He's an aggressive edge-setter against the run, and a sound wrap-up tackler who makes plays in space and limits leaky yardage. He has good speed and length, but physicality and effort are what really stand out."
Bishop and the Vols will see Gibson and the Aggies when Tennessee travels to College Station for a matchup against Texas A&M on November 14.
