Key Points

  • Stanley Tucci shared a simple, healthy five-ingredient tuna salad recipe perfect for a quick lunch.
  • The salad features tuna, feta, cucumber, tomato, basil and olive oil, offering protein and heart-healthy fats.
  • Chefs recommend olive oil-packed tuna, like Tonnino, for the best flavor and nutritional benefits.

Stanley Tucci is always sharing simple, healthy recipes with his social media followers. From lunchtime pasta dishes that can be whipped up fast to veggie-packed brunch recipes, whenever the The Devil Wears Prada 2 star takes to Instagram to talk about what he’s eating, we pay attention.

While wrapping up his time filming the upcoming action-comedy heist movie Masterplan, Tucci hopped onto Instagram from his trailer to share a bit about his day on set, including the delicious-sounding, five-ingredient meal he was eating for lunch. “I’m in my trailer yet again,” Tucci said in a reel, “I have stunt rehearsals today and just took a little break for lunch.

“Why they didn’t ask me to do stunts when I was like 40, I have no idea,” the 65-year-old actor continued, explaining that he was feeling a bit exhausted from such an active day of filming. “Anyway, my lunch is tuna, cucumber, feta, olive oil, tomato, basil, and then I’m gonna go back and get hurt some more.”

The fresh, lunchtime salad Tucci eats in the clip looks absolutely delicious. And, because it only requires five simple ingredients, it’s one you can keep around and throw together fast when you need a high-protein midday meal.

To make Tucci’s fresh tuna salad, drain a can of high-quality tuna and toss it into a bowl with crumbled feta cheese, chopped tomatoes and cucumbers, fresh basil, and a drizzle of olive oil. It’s really that simple, and it’s a lunch that packs a ton of health benefits.

For one, the omega-3 fatty acids in tuna are great for heart and eye health, and the protein in the canned fish can help you feel full throughout the afternoon. Cucumber is a great source of water for extra hydration and could also help reduce the risk of diseases like cancer and diabetes, and tomatoes are rich in antioxidants and vitamin C.

Curious what brand of canned tuna is the best one to use for a protein-forward dish like this? EatingWell asked chefs for a bit of help choosing the best grocery store canned tuna, and our chefs all agreed it’s best to choose olive oil-packed tuna. Chefs also recommend chilling the can of tuna for a bit before eating it, so it’s not a bad idea to store your canned tuna in the fridge.

But if you’re looking for a specific brand recommendation, go with Tonnino, a canned tuna brand worth the splurge, per chefs—especially if you’re not mixing it with mayonnaise and seasonings to make tuna salad. But, if you can’t find Tonnino at your grocery store, chefs recommend choosing yellowfin tuna over albacore or skipjack, and choosing a brand that’s packed in olive oil, not water.
