SpaceX (SPCX) is exploring a significant expansion of its data center presence in Texas, including at least one large-scale operation, The Information reported.
The move into Texas could expand the company's geographical presence outside of Memphis, Tenn., where it has its Colossus data centers. Colossus 1 opened in July 2024 and took around four months to complete, while work on Colossus 2 started in March 2025.
The company has explored several sites in Texas, the news outlet added, citing two people familiar with the matter. It has also discussed various approaches to its expansion, including setting up multiple data centers either from scratch or retrofitting an existing warehouse, the people added.
In addition to potentially expanding into Texas, SpaceX has started working on a third data center in Memphis. In 2025, the company acquired an 810,000-square-foot warehouse in Mississippi, the news outlet added.
SpaceX has also sent data center staffers to Florida, the news outlet explained, citing one of its sources.
On Tuesday, artificial intelligence server maker Super Micro Computer (SMCI) disclosed that its backlog rose to record levels, with total new orders exceeding $60B. Super Micro CEO Charles Liang said in June that the company was working with SpaceX on another Gigawatt data center but did not specify the exact location.
SpaceX did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Seeking Alpha.
