The 2026 World Cup, which was played across North America, came to a close over the weekend.
In the past, soccer has been viewed as a sport of the people, with prices generally affordable to most.
At this year’s tournament, however, tickets were well into the thousands, with some World Cup final tickets even setting supporters back $1m, and Forbes mentioning last week that the average ticket to watch Spain vs Argentina cost $15,331.
MLS ticket price much cheaper than World Cup
Now, with the World Cup coming to a close and Spain the official winners, attention has begun to turn back towards the MLS.
The league is currently ongoing, as unlike many other divisions around Europe, it does not go on a break in the summer.
In turn, the ticket prices of the MLS have caught the eye of soccer fans who have been drawn in by the World Cup.
Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami side are set to take on Chicago Fire on Wednesday evening, and tickets are available to purchase for $11.
That is a major decrease compared to what you would have had to pay to watch most World Cup matches in North America, and fans are very pleased with how cheap they are.
One fan responded: “11 dollars and a Lewandowski brace, not a bad business.”
Another replied: “New fans who enjoyed the World Cup are wisely setting their fandom behind MLS.
A third tweeted: “WE EATING GOOD BOYS.”
“Hopefully some new fans of the sport get made in the cheap seats at this one,” a fourth wished.
While a fifth claimed: “There is a reason soccer will actually take off more here in the USA, it is because it is more affordable for families to go to than it is for the NFL.”
Elsewhere, another suggested: “I’m thinking to become an LAFC fan. I know MLS is a mediocre league, but I’d rather root for my local team and be able to get relatively cheap tickets for games at a stadium I can take the train to.”
