Snoop Dogg biopic release date announced

Pour up the gin and juice: Snoop Dogg's biopic is set to hit U.S. theaters on Aug. 6, 2027. Universal Pictures made next summer's release date official with an announcement on Tuesday (July 21).

A press release billed the film as the "definitive biopic" of Snoop Dogg (born Calvin Broadus). Outer Banks star Jonathan Daviss is set to play the Death Row icon, while Hustle & Flow‘s Craig Brewer is onboard to direct.

Titled Snoop, the rap legend's film will be rated R. It's still unclear if the movie will focus on a specific era of Snoop Dogg's decorated career or span his entire life. Universal previously helmed acclaimed rap-centric films like the N.W.A biopic Straight Outta Compton and the Eminem-starring 8 Mile.

The West Coast legend initially revealed plans for the biopic while speaking at CinemaCon in April, which included production starting this summer.

"After my brothers got to tell their story with Straight Outta Compton, now it's my turn," the rapper told the Las Vegas audience. "My director, Craig Brewer, he just showed us how hard it is out here for a pimp from Hustle & Flow. And then last year, he got us all singing ‘Sweet Caroline,'" Snoop added, referencing the Brewer-directed Song Sung Blue.

Outside of N.W.A and Eminem, other rap luminaries such as 50 Cent, The Notorious B.I.G. and 2Pac have had movies at least loosely based around their lives.

Even at 54 years old, the Long Beach native is still keeping busy dropping music and completing plenty of side missions. Snoop teamed up with Kurupt and DJ Battlecat for "Me N the Boyz" last Friday (July 17).

To date, Snoop Dogg has scored 45 Billboard Hot 100 entries, which include notching No. 1 hits like "Drop It Like It's Hot" and as a featured guest on Katy Perry's "California Gurls" and Akon's "I Wanna Love You."
