Jean co-wrote and co-produced the track, which incorporated elements of "Dance Like This," his earlier collaboration with Claudette Ortiz.
The Barclays Center performance arrived during Shakira's "Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran World Tour," named after her 2024 album. The tour combines material from that record with songs spanning her Spanish-language beginnings, rock-influenced period and international pop breakthrough.
The second Brooklyn concert also gave Shakira an opportunity to revisit older material for longtime listeners. Billboard described the show as a trip through different periods of her career, with the Wyclef Jean appearance serving as its clearest nostalgic centerpiece.
The reunion was not the first time Jean had joined Shakira during the tour. He previously appeared with her in New Jersey in 2025 to perform "Hips Don't Lie."
Even so, the Barclays Center appearance carried particular significance because of Jean's connection to New York and the song's continuing popularity two decades after its release.
Shakira's tour has featured several guest appearances across different cities, but fans should not assume that Jean will appear at future shows unless an appearance is announced or takes place.
For the Brooklyn audience, the surprise offered a live recreation of the collaboration that gave Shakira one of the defining hits of her career.
