Leslie Jones brought the laughs to Today‘s Studio 1A while promoting her new HGTV series, Roast My Rental.
Roast My Rental, which premieres on Friday, July 24, will follow Jones as she tours some of the country’s worst short-term rentals. Following Jones’ hilarious commentary, HGTV’s Jasmine Roth and her design team will transform the run-down properties, giving them a second chance at becoming a must-stay property.
In celebration of the new series, Jenna Bush Hager and Sheinelle Jones had Leslie poke fun at things around the Today set in a segment called “Roast Our Studio.” Leslie slammed everything from the set’s fake flowers, tomatoes, and potted plants, to the studio’s backstage sets, to the Today and NBC logos. She even took a jab at one of the Jenna & Sheinelle crew members’ outfits.
The Saturday Night Live alum wrapped up the segment by playfully poking fun at her and Sheinelle’s height difference. “Wait a minute. Let me take my shoes off,” Sheinelle stated before once again positioning herself next to Leslie to show off their drastically different statures.
Sheinelle continued the gag by pretending to jump into Leslie’s arms. Leslie took things up a notch by lifting Sheinelle off the ground and holding her in her arms, eliciting lots of laughs and claps from Bush Hager and the show’s crew.
“It’s like, ‘I do! I do!’” Sheinelle joked after Leslie placed her back on the ground. Looking straight into the camera, Leslie quipped, “She is so small!”
Leslie wrapped up the funny on-air moment by raising her hands for Sheinelle to high-five, only to jokingly make her jump up to reach them.
The show’s Instagram page shared several photos of the hilarious interaction, writing, “Leslie Jones took ‘Roast Our Studio’ seriously!!” Underneath the post, one fan commented, “This literally is THE moment of this first season. Was dying laughing with Leslie on today.” Another added, “This is hilarious. Yellow looks great on Sheinelle Matches her sunshine energy.”
Someone else shared, “I screamed and almost woke up the house.” A different person posted, “Probably my MOST favorite segment yet on Jenna and Sheinelle!!!!! Dying laughing. Love @lesdogggg.” A separate commenter stated, “I couldn’t stop laughing such a great segment.”
Another fan wrote, “It was so funny that I rewinded and watched it again!!!” Somebody else commented, “Without a doubt, the highlight of my morning today!! Leslie Jones you look absolutely amazing—I love your hair and that outfit!!!!!”
Sheinelle has been co-hosting the fourth hour of Today with Bush Hager since January. Sheinelle has filled in for hosts during the earlier hours of Today this week, replacing Craig Melvin at the anchor desk on Monday, July 20, and Savannah Guthrie on Tuesday. Melvin is currently on a summer break, while Guthrie began her weeks-long hiatus from Today to film NBC’s upcoming Wordle game show.
