The Seattle Seahawks didn’t have to replace much from their Super Bowl-winning team, at least compared to some other past champions. However, there is one major piece that is gone.
Offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak is off to be the new head coach of the Las Vegas Raiders. Kubiak did a great job helping Sam Darnold to one of the best season of his career, and now he will be overseeing Fernando Mendoza’s development in Las Vegas.
In to replace Kubiak is Brian Fleury, who has worked under Kyle Shanahan as an assistant for the San Francisco 49ers in recent years. While Fleury has never been a playcaller in the NFL, Sports Illustrated’s Conor Orr has faith that he will be the right hire based on a lesson that Mike Macdonald learned during his first season as the head coach in Seattle.

“The Seahawks have run-it-back potential for one main reason: I think Mike Macdonald learned a very important early lesson about choosing the right offensive coordinator after a disappointing 2024 season with Ryan Grubb,” Orr said. “Pivoting to Klint Kubiak last year and then combing the Shanahan tree for the respected Brian Fleury shows a solidification of his personal vision, and I don’t imagine a major step down from Fleury, who worked alongside Kubiak in San Francisco.”
Fleury, assuming that he runs a similar system to the one that Shanahan ran in The Bay, will have a similar style to the one that Kubiak brought last season. With 10 of the 11 starters on offense back for the Seahawks this season, there’s a chance that they pick up where they left off with Fleury calling the shots.
The Seattle defense also has most of its key pieces back next season, and it should be one of the best units in all of football with Macdonald calling the plays. If the Fleury hire pans out and the offense also picks up where it left off, this Seahawks squad will be scary for any team to take on once again in 2026.
