Morgan Rogers has revealed that he spoke with Cole Palmer before making the move to Chelsea.
The forward, 23, completed his £117million switch from Aston Villa on Tuesday, becoming the most expensive British player of all time in the process.
He beats Elliot Anderson to the record, with the midfielder costing Manchester City £116m earlier this sumer from Nottingham Forest.
Now, Rogers, who scored 10 goals and added six assists in 37 Premier League games last term, has made the next step in his career as he moves to Stamford Bridge.
There, he will reunite with former Man City team-mate - and compatriot - Palmer, who Rogers labels his one of [my] best friends”.
“I’ve known Cole since I was about 14,” he explained.
“First in the England team and then at Man City together. We’ve been speaking about this for a while. We would always have loved to have played together, and for it to happen, we’re both really excited.
“He’s been non-stop ringing my phone. I can’t wait.
“It’s the most special thing to be playing with one of your best friends, and being around him every day is something I’m really excited about.
“He was so happy. He’s never texted me that much in my life. He’s not great on his phone, but he’s been great on his phone this week.
“He’s excited. It’s really nice for me that it means so much to someone else as well.”
There could be a point of contention between the pair, with the duo sharing their iconic ‘ice cold’ goal celebration.
Jokes have been made online about who started the trend first, with Rogers insisting that it was him.
“We haven’t really spoken about it, but I’m sure it will get mentioned at some point,” he said of the pair’s signature celebration.
“I don’t see why [we can’t do it together]. Hopefully we’ll both score loads of goals and have loads of chances to do it.”
