Universal Pictures is bringing the lore behind the West Coast music icon's life to the big screen.
Director Craig Brewer (Song Sung Blue) is set to helm Snoop for Universal Pictures. The biopic inspired by the life of entertainer and rapperSnoop Dogg is slated for theatrical release on August 6, 2027, according toThe Hollywood Reporter.
The trade also confirms that Outer Banks breakout star Jonathan Daviss will star as Calvin Broadus Jr. as he rises to fame as Snoop Dogg in the 90's. In Universal's Oscar-nominated hit 2015 music biopic Straight Outta Compton, the rapper was played by actor LaKeith Stanfield (Sorry to Bother You) and made the studio over 200 million at the box office, perBox Office Mojo.
The iconic rap star was quoted, "After my brothers got to tell their story with Straight Outta Compton, now it’s my turn,” he said. “My director, Craig Brewer, he just showed us how hard it is out here for a pimp from Hustle & Flow. And then last year, he got us all singing ‘Sweet Caroline'" he shared, hyping up the Song Sung Blue filmmakers' and Universal's work with musical dramas.
