Jermod McCoy was one of the final remaining drafted rookie for the Raiders. Likely because his injury situation made his contract not as cut and dry as the team's other drafted rookies.
But in the end, it was going to get done. And just ahead of the rookies reporting for the start of training camp, he and the Raiders made it happen.
McCoy's deal is worth $5.7 million over four years with a $1.33 million signing bonus. He represents a $1.22 million cap hit for 2026.
The injury situation is the main reason McCoy slipped into the fourth round in the first place. Some team doctors fear that he could need another surgery on his knee and the surgery is risky enough that, if not successful, could end his career.
But come day three, the risk was worth the potential reward for the Raiders, so they jumped up one spot to pick 101 and took the talented cornerback who was graded as a first rounder without the injury concerns.
McCoy participated early in OTA practices, which would seem to be a good sign, but he was held out of minicamp. The team said they're being cautious with him and hopes to have him on the field for training camp.
The only Raiders rookie still unsigned is top pick QB Fernando Mendoza. Recently an NFL contract guru examined the reason for the holdup between Mendoza and the Raiders.
