The maker of ChatGPT has admitted that a powerful version of its artificial intelligence program went rogue and hacked another technology firm.

OpenAI was testing some of its latest models in a supposedly secure environment – known as a sandbox – when it lost control of them in an 'unprecedented' incident.

The AI created its own cyber attack, allowing it to escape the testing ground and then infiltrate another US business called Hugging Face, attempting to steal information.
