The Philadelphia Phillies are looking to clinch a series win when they battle against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Tuesday. But before first pitch, the franchise was forced to shake up their roster.
Philadelphia placed catcher Garrett Stubbs on the 10-day injured list with left wrist inflammation, the team announced. In turn, outfielder Bryan De La Cruz has been recalled from Triple-A.
While there is no timetable for his return, the fact Stubbs is dealing with “just” inflammation is a good sign. The Phillies will be cautious and will be paying close attention to Stubbs’ wrist injury. Ultimately, they’ll hope he isn’t forced to stick on the IL long-term.

Operating as Philadelphia’s backup catcher, Stubbs has hit .179 with two RBIs on the season. While the Phillies’ focus at catcher is JT Realmuto, they still want production when he isn’t in the lineup. When Stubbs returns from injury, Philadelphia will look for him to turn things around.
De La Cruz has yet to appear in a game for the Phillies. He hit 19+ home runs in both 2023 and 2024, but he has yet to return to those numbers. Philadelphia will at least hope he can provide a spark off the bench when called upon.
At 56-45 entering the contest, the Phillies are just three games back of the NL East lead and hold a four game advantage over the competition for a Wild Card spot. Plenty of roster changes are sure to occur moving forward as Philadelphia chases a deep playoff run.
