(NewsNation) — The Department of Defense on Tuesday released the name of an additional U.S. soldier killed in Iranian strikes in Jordan, identifying him as 30-year-old Sgt. Michael Emmanuel Swinton of Fayetteville, North Carolina.
The Pentagon said Swinton was killed in action Sunday during a controlled detonation of a downed One-Way Unmanned Aerial System at Erbil Air Base, Iraq. The incident is under investigation.
Swinton was assigned to D Battery, 2nd Battalion, 55th Air Defense Artillery Regiment, 108th Air Defense Artillery Brigade, Fort Bragg, North Carolina, the Pentagon said.
On Monday, the Pentagon identified two other troops who were killed in an Iranian attack on an air base in Jordan.
1st Lt. Tyler James Feehan, 25, of Ewa Beach, Hawaii, was killed in action July 18, and Pvt. Isabella Gonzales, 19, of Carrollton, Texas, was killed in action July 17 during an Iranian attack on Muwaffaq Salti Air Base, Jordan.
The deaths mark the deadliest stretch for U.S. personnel since the conflict began in March.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt wrote on X that President Donald Trump will attend the dignified transfer of Feehan and Gonzales at Dover Air Force Base Tuesday evening.
