Chiefs fans can breathe a bit easy now.

The Kansas City Chiefs received incredible news ahead of the upcoming 2026 NFL season. Reports by Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer confirm that superstar quarterback Patrick Mahomes will receive full medical clearance this week.

This clearance allows him to participate in training camp without any physical restrictions or limitations. Fans and team officials are celebrating this massive milestone in his recovery journey. The two-time MVP completed an intense rehabilitation process following a major knee injury last December, and his return to full health brings immediate relief to the franchise as preparations begin.

Mahomes will join the team’s quarterbacks and rookies at training camp in St. Joseph, Missouri. Head coach Andy Reid can now focus on building the offense with his franchise star back. The entire organization feels a renewed sense of confidence heading into the new season.

Mahomes Faces Defenders For The First Time Since Surgery

Training camp marks the first time Mahomes will face live defenders since his knee surgery. During offseason workouts, he participated in individual drills while wearing a protective non-contact jersey, where the coaching staff wisely kept him out of full team contact drills to prevent any setbacks.

Now fully cleared, the star quarterback will participate in intense 11-on-11 practice sessions. Coach Reid’s training camps are famous across the league for their physical intensity and high pace. Facing live defensive pressure will test his knee and help him regain full confidence.

The Chiefs will closely monitor his daily workload during the initial days of practice. Mahomes has traditionally played snaps during preseason games to build rhythm before Week 1. Competing alongside quarterbacks like Justin Fields will help push the entire offense toward peak performance.

Mahomes Tore Both His ACL And LCL In December

The initial injury occurred during a late-season Week 15 matchup last year. Mahomes suffered severe structural damage, tearing both his ACL and LCL during a play.

He underwent complex knee surgery on December 15, starting a long and daunting rehabilitation path. Despite the serious nature of the injury, Mahomes made remarkably steady progress. He worked tirelessly with medical staff throughout the spring to rebuild strength and mobility.

His presence at team minicamps proved that his recovery timeline remained right on track. Reaching full medical clearance in under eight months highlights his incredible dedication. His swift return shows remarkable physical resilience and determination to lead his team again as they look forward to seeing their star back at full strength on the field.
