Bill O’Reilly warned on Monday that President Trump has limited paths forward in the U.S. military operations against Tehran, as the months-long conflict stretches into another week.
“Do I know what’s going to happen? No, but I do know the president has shrinking options,” the pundit told NewsNation’s “On Balance,” regarding the next stage of the war.
He called these military operations “the biggest gamble” of Trump’s life, noting the limited amount of information about the condition of the Iranian people during the conflict.
“I don’t know it, no pundit knows it and no reporter knows it, because nobody is allowed into the country to assess it, so we don’t know,” the commentator told host Leland Vittert. “And that makes it really difficult.”
O’Reilly also noted the gap between the number of military casualties Iran and the U.S. are prepared to have in this conflict.
“In our country, we are not willing to accept any casualties,” he continued. “That’s the difference, and that makes it very difficult for a president to wage any kind of conflict, so he is almost trapped in what he can do.”
Seventeen U.S. service members have now been killed in this conflict, after U.S. Central Command said three people were killed in recent Iranian strikes on U.S. military bases in the Middle East.
The deaths have increased pressure on the Trump administration from the public to end the conflict and remove troops from the military operations against Iran.
Vittert also asked O’Reilly about how the president will face the families of these fallen soldiers after claiming that the Iranian military had been “totally destroyed.”
“Hyperbole is part of every war,” the former Fox News host said. “You’re going to have one side say one thing and the other side say the other thing, so President Trump is trying to rally the American people to his cause.”
He added, “That’s what he’s trying to do, and we don’t know what the situation is.”
