  • OpenAI's (OPENAI) spending on computing power could hit $750B by 2030, up from a previously estimated $600B, The Wall Street Journal reported.
  • The company raised its projection, due in part to new agreements signed with cloud computing providers, the news outlet added, citing a person familiar with the matter. The level of spending has come under scrutiny from outsiders and some inside the company as it seeks to become a publicly traded company. Past media reports have indicated there is tension between OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and CFO Sarah Friar over the level of spending, though the two have publicly denied any friction.
  • In addition to the increase in projected spending, OpenAI hired former xAI executive Brent Mayo to help with its data center build-out, the news outlet explained, citing people with knowledge of the matter. Mayo had been one of the people who worked on building out xAI's data centers.
  • Separately, on Wednesday, OpenAI announced plans to spend more than $30B on a data center in Savannah, Georgia.
  • OpenAI did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Seeking Alpha.
