A premier downtown State College property is up for lease more than a year after a regional chain first acquired it.
The storefront at 346 E. College Ave. is back on the market, according to signs posted by Comet Properties, LLC, in the front-facing windows last week. A smaller sign notes the previous lease - signed by Kung Fu Noodle in late 2024 - was terminated effective July 10.
Representatives for Kung Fu Noodle’s North American operations have not responded to requests for comment from the Centre Daily Times regarding the company’s plans in the State College market. Comet Properties declined to comment on the terminated lease.
Back in March 2025, the Centre Daily Times reported Kung Fu Noodle originally planned to open in State College by early summer 2025. However, the company’s first location in Pennsylvania never served customers or even put up exterior signage beyond a banner in front of the former Liberty Craft House.
It’s not yet clear if the company walked back its plans to expand to Centre County, but a Penn State location is still listed as “coming soon” on its website.
Dennis Zhang, Kung Fu Noodle’s president for North American operations, said in early 2025 the company was working to expand to more college towns after launching in Dayton, Ohio, in 2019. Kung Fu Noodle founded a restaurant in Columbus, Ohio, near Ohio State’s campus in 2024 and opened just a block away from the University of Kentucky in 2025.
Kung Fu Noodle’s menu features fresh-cooked, hand-pulled noodles and a wide range of authentic Chinese dishes, including Lanzhou beef noodle soup - a favorite from the eponymous capital city of northwest China’s Gansu province, where Zhang grew up and fell in love with Chinese cuisine. The menu planned for State College included pan-seared pot stickers, braised pork, Chinese donuts, boba drinks and teas and more.

The property sits on what is perhaps the fastest growing block in downtown State College, largely thanks to the revitalization efforts of this summer’s “East End Social” and new businesses like The Press Cider and Craft Beverage Taphouse, Manny’s Live Performance Space and the in-development Backstage Brewdio along Hiester Street. The new Brooklyn Bodega Deli and Grill, a New York-style convenience store, could open by the end of July.
