North Texas under extreme heat warning as heat index values could hit 116 degrees

An extreme heat warning is in effect for North Texas through Wednesday, July 22, as heat index values could reach 116 degrees.

The extreme heat warning will stick around until 8 p.m. Wednesday, at which time a heat advisory will go into effect through 8 p.m. Thursday, July 23, according to the National Weather Service Fort Worth. An extreme heat warning is issued when extremely dangerous heat conditions are expected, while a heat advisory is for when dangerous heat conditions are not expected to reach warning criteria.

Wednesday’s daily high is 105 degrees, and heat index values (or indices) could reach 116 degrees. Heat index is described as the “feels like” temperature to the human body.

Extreme heat will stick around through the rest of the week and into the weekend, with heat index values between 105 and 115 degrees each day.
