Newcastle United has reportedly learned the asking price for Botafogo midfielder Danilo Santos as the club continues searching for midfield reinforcements this summer.

The Magpies are looking to strengthen Eddie Howe’s options in the middle of the pitch after losing Sandro Tonali to Tottenham and facing continued uncertainty over captain Bruno Guimaraes, who remains a target for Arsenal and could leave Tyneside in the next few weeks.

According to Chronicle Live, confirming earlier reports, Newcastle has identified the 25-year-old Brazil international as a midfield option, with Botafogo valuing him at around €29 million (£25 million).

The report comes after Newcastle missed out on Johan Manzambi, who opted to join Aston Villa despite previously agreeing personal terms with the Magpies, and a rebuffed offer for Tottenham’s Lucas Bergval.

Danilo is already familiar with the Premier League after spending two seasons at Nottingham Forest between 2023 and 2025, making 62 appearances before returning to Brazil following a serious leg injury.

Since joining Botafogo, Danilo has rebuilt his reputation and returned to the Brazil national team. Danilo has scored nine goals and added two assists in 21 appearances with Botafogo this season before earning a place in Brazil’s 2026 World Cup squad.

The midfielder made four substitute appearances during Brazil’s tournament run and operated both as a defensive midfielder and a more advanced box-to-box option.

According to Chronicle Live, Botafogo would prefer to keep Danilo but understands the financial appeal of a Premier League move, and the reported €29 million fee could be enough to land him.
