Sikorsky is bringing its MATRIX autonomy technology to BETA Technologies’ ALIA MV250 hybrid vertical take-off and landing aircraft, expanding the system’s use across uncrewed military logistics platforms.
The Lockheed Martin company said the MV250 will join a growing group of MATRIX-enabled aircraft that includes the S-70UAS U-Hawk, Nomad VTOL uncrewed aircraft system, and optionally piloted Black Hawk.
The integration is undertaken to support rapid cargo transport and resupply missions in contested environments, where sending crewed aircraft could expose personnel to significant risk.
Autonomy integrated within two weeks
Sikorsky and BETA formally agreed to the initiative earlier in July. Within two weeks, the companies had integrated MATRIX autonomy into BETA’s CX300 conventional take-off and landing aircraft and completed flight operations.
That work is now feeding directly into the development of the MV250.
BETA’s ALIA aircraft share a common flight-control architecture, allowing the technology tested on the CX300 to be transferred more easily to the hybrid VTOL platform.
Sikorsky also designed MATRIX as an open-architecture autonomy system that can connect with different flight-control frameworks.
The companies will continue flight testing to expand the aircraft’s operating envelope and assess how reliably MATRIX works with BETA’s internally developed flight-control system.
“Integrating the MATRIX autonomy stack into the MV250 is another step forward in providing a range of solutions for contested logistics missions, which we have demonstrated in autonomous operations since 2021,” said Rich Benton, vice president and general manager of Sikorsky.
“All platforms equipped with MATRIX autonomy can be commanded using the same interface, giving operators the ability to seamlessly manage various systems with just a few taps. MATRIX technology represents an opportunity to get safe, reliable, certifiable autonomy into a range of platforms as quickly as possible,” he added.
Built for high-risk logistics missions
The MV250 is intended to address what the companies describe as a middleweight logistics gap, carrying out fast, uncrewed resupply missions in areas where communications, infrastructure, or airspace may be contested.
The aircraft combines the commercial development of BETA’s ALIA family with a hybrid powertrain and a Modular Open Systems Approach architecture. According to the companies, that architecture helped accelerate the MATRIX integration while allowing the aircraft to support multiple mission types.

“The MV250 is low cost, high speed and simple and designed for autonomous integration. Bringing MATRIX autonomy onto the MV250 combines those investments into a platform that can do high-risk missions without putting personnel at risk,” he added.
MATRIX expands across aircraft types
Sikorsky has tested autonomous logistics operations since 2021. In 2025, it demonstrated a MATRIX-equipped Black Hawk carrying out internal cargo transport, sling-load delivery, parachute airdrops, and personnel recovery under the control of an Army operator.
The company said MATRIX has now logged more than 1,000 flight hours across over 500 tests and demonstrations. More than 100 operators have been trained to use the system, which has been integrated into over 20 aircraft platforms, including helicopters, drones, fighters, and cargo aircraft.
MATRIX also forms the foundation of DARPA’s Aircrew Labor In-cockpit Automation System program, which has focused on introducing advanced automation into existing aircraft.
