Reporter at SEC media days on Wednesday in Tampa: Did any young guys catch your attention?

“I was talking about Jireh Edwards earlier,” Brown said. “He’s a freak of nature. He’s been doing a great job so far.”

Edwards is a 6-foot-2, 221-pound true freshman defensive back who was a five-star recruit in the 2026 recruiting class. He picked Alabama over some of the best programs in college football such as Georgia, Ohio State and more.

The Largo, Maryland native will have plenty of competition to get on the field. Alabama returns two veterans at safety in Bray Hubbard and Keon Sabb. Plus, the Crimson Tide has players such as Ivan Taylor, Zavier Mincey, Dre Kirkpatrick and more developing in the secondary.

But Alabama might have to find a way to get Edwards on the field, especially with the way Brown is talking about him.

Alabama is about two weeks away from the start of preseason camp. The Crimson Tide is entering the third season under DeBoer’s leadership, kicking off against East Carolina on Sept. 5 at Bryant-Denny Stadium.
