Nebraska football tight end Carter Nelson has a major goal as he heads into the 2026 season. The in-state star looks to be a focal point of the offense, and he has a new mindset heading into the year.
Nelson played in all 13 games last season and a variety of roles. He caught two passes for 11 yards and also returned a blocked punt for a touchdown against Michigan State. He caught a three-yard pass in that same game and caught a pass for 8 yards at Penn State.
There were signs that he could break out last season. However, he had surgery over the offseason to correct bone spurs and clean up a secondary shoulder issue. He was sidelined for spring ball as he worked on the rehabilitation process, and now he appears ready to go.
Nelson spoke to Kyle Crooks of the Husker Radio Network and talked about his thought process for 2026. He spoke specifically about moving on from injuries and starting new.
"The biggest thing is to just leave that behind me, move on and start the new season."
A healthy Nelson would automatically add a spark to the tight end position. He was a decorated high school recruit and an important get for the 2024 recruiting class. His being healthy would immediately elevate the position.
