MSNOW's Luke Russert has unleashed a scathing criticism of Make America Healthy Again (MAHA) movement supporters, claiming they contributed to circumstances that resulted in a disease outbreak tied to what he called "poopy, poopy lettuce."
During an appearance on The Weeknight on Tuesday, July 21, Russert attributed responsibility to both the MAHA movement and budget reductions implemented under Elon Musk's leadership of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) for undermining the nation's capacity to address a spreading cyclosporiasis outbreak - a parasitic infection that can trigger serious gastrointestinal issues, including explosive diarrhea.
Over 30 states have reported cases to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) connected to the parasite, which can taint fresh produce, while five states have formally announced outbreaks. Michigan has been the hardest hit, with New York close behind. This comes after Kelly Clarkson fears she has 'explosive diarrhea' parasite.

Cyclosporiasis stems from the microscopic parasite Cyclospora cayetanensis and is generally transmitted through the consumption of contaminated fruits and vegetables.
Signs of infection can include extended diarrhea, abdominal cramping, nausea, exhaustion, and diminished appetite, with symptoms frequently persisting for days or potentially weeks without treatment.
Russert referenced a Wired investigation alleging the CDC laboratory tasked with examining cyclosporiasis outbreaks saw its workforce reduced from 11 personnel to merely three during DOGE-directed budget reductions, with approximately $30 million in funding purportedly eliminated.
The TV host contended that MAHA advocates had supported initiatives to diminish government regulation and public health financing, leaving Americans with what his co-host Michael Steele had previously characterized as "poopy, poopy lettuce.", reports the Mirror US.
The "Make America Healthy Again" slogan was created by Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. during his independent 2024 presidential bid, before he subsequently joined Donald Trump's administration.
Russert stated, "I blame a certain segment of people for this. And I want to tell you who they are. They're the MAHAs, the Make America Healthy Again. Now, I'm sure if you had a social media account in the last three years, they popped up in your feed.
"Some of your friends, some of whom went to Ivy League universities, totally fell for this. And why is this the fault of the MAHAs? Because all the rational people, folks like you and me, said, you know, Republicans, when they're in power, they let the corporations write the regulations for themselves.
"They're not about making America healthy again. We saw that when they came after Michelle Obama's school lunch program, right? And what happened here? Well, the regulators got cut, the inspectors got cut, and now we have the poopy poopy lettuce!"
