(NewsNation) — A French professional model recruiter, who allegedly arranged for the late financier and sex offender Jeffrey Epstein to meet multiple models, was found dead in his Paris home Monday, according to multiple reports.
The body of 69-year-old Daniel Siad was found in his house in Colombes, a north-west suburb of Paris, according to The Independent.
An autopsy will be performed to determine the cause of death, the BBC reported.
Siad’s name appeared thousands of times in the Epstein files released by the U.S. Department of Justice. He had previously denied any knowledge of the threat Epstein posed, according to the BBC.
Siad was under investigation for allegedly assisting Epstein in trafficking women, though he had not yet been questioned by authorities regarding these claims, The Independent reported.
Siad on relationship with Epstein
A close associate, Siad allegedly sent photos, profiles and travel updates of young women to Epstein, facilitating introductions under the guise of “model casting,” according to The Independent.
Both Epstein and Siad were active in central Barcelona beginning in 2017. Siad said the city was an ideal place for recruitment because of its decriminalization of sex work, the large influx of tourists and the anonymity it offered, describing it as “much safer than Paris,” The Independent said.
In an interview with CNN, Siad described his relationship with Epstein as “strictly professional.”
“I never heard anything from anyone introduced who came back to me that they had a bad situation with him,” he said.
Siad expressed regret ever meeting, describing the fallout as ” like a nightmare,” adding, “he was such a powerful person; how can I not trust him?”
Epstein died by suicide in a New York jail cell in 2019 while awaiting trial on federal sex trafficking charges involving dozens of underage girls. He faced 45 years in prison if convicted.
Earlier this year, the DOJ released millions of pages of records under the Epstein Files Transparency Act, including emails, court documents, photographs and videos. Many of the records reference or depict high-profile figures, including President Donald Trump.
