Salty & sweet!

Southerners love a good homemade biscuit. Ideally, one straight from the oven, slathered in butter, and made by our grandma on a Sunday morning.

When that’s not an option, biscuits from fast food restaurants can work in a pinch. The Bo-Berry Biscuits from Bojangles are always a favorite; the same goes for the Chicken Biscuit from Chick-fil-A; and Church’s Texas Chicken’s Honey-Butter Biscuits are a classic. Now, McDonald’s has two new options for those of us exploring the wonderful world of biscuit sandwiches.

The Big Mac purveyors just added two new breakfast sandwiches to its menu and they both sound like keepers. First, there’s the Honey Brown Butter Bacon, Egg & Cheese Biscuit, which puts the classic combo of bacon, egg, and American cheese between a biscuit and tops it all with honey brown butter. This sounds like a possible rival for the affections of anyone who loves the sweet-salty flavor of McDonald’s McGriddle breakfast sandwich.

The other option, Honey Brown Butter Chicken Biscuit, puts the chain’s signature crispy chicken patty on a biscuit that is then drenched in the same honey brown butter.

Brown butter, made by cooking butter until it turns nutty brown, is one of those ingredients that elevates the simplest dish and makes it a knockout. Brown butter transforms everything from frosting to sweet potatoes to cornbread and glazed carrots, adding a unique depth of flavor to even the most basic ingredients. Can’t wait to find out what it does to a breakfast biscuit.

The Honey Brown Butter Biscuits are currently listed on the McDonald’s app for around $5.19, although prices and availability vary by location. These tasty-sounding biscuits are set to officially hit menus across the South (and beyond) on July 21.
