Marvel Snap’s July 2026 season is a tie-in with Spider-Man: Brand New Day, and one of the wall-crawler’s most iconic foes has finally joined the game’s roster as part of it.
Somehow, it’s taken almost four years for it to happen, but iconic Daily Bugle editor-in-chief J. Jonah Jameson has finally made his way to Marvel Snap. And, perhaps true to form, he’s borderline useless…but pretty damn funny.
JJJ is a 1-cost, 3-Power card with the ability “Ongoing: Your text emotes are ruder.” That’s it. When on the board, Jameson changes up your text emotes to make them quite a bit sassier than normal. And it all begins when he yells his trademark “PARKER!” outburst as he’s played.
For example, the “AAARGH!” emote changes to “Crap! Crap! MEGACRAP!” as a reference to the Sam Raimi films where JJJ was played by JK Simmons. “Thumbs up!” changes to “Thumbs down!”, “I’m confident” changes to “You play like a bot! I can’t lose!”, and “I don’t believe you!” changes to “Fake news!”
But that’s really about it for good ol’ JJ. Just like his comic book counterpart, he’s full of bluster and not much else. And that’s what makes the long-awaited addition so funny. He’s full of himself for no reason at all.
As an Ongoing card, J. Jonah can be paired up with other cards of the archetype like Captain America or Spectrum as the 12th addition in a deck built around the ability, but beyond that, he’s just there to yell, scream, and lighten the mood.
Thankfully, the card is currently free for all players as part of a 14-day login rewards period. JJJ is one of several Spider-Man-themed cards added for this season, including Aunt May, Mary Jane, Scorpion, Boomerang, Tarantula, and the Sinister Six, all coinciding with the Brand New Day MCU film dropping in theaters next week.
Marvel Snap’s tie-in potential is great, similarly to how Marvel Rivals is used as a vessel to promote movies and TV shows. This season’s cards themed around Spider-Man and specific characters appearing in the movie are part of a concerted effort by Marvel to use its games as hype and advertising for its slate of films.
I’d say that I’m the target for this sort of advertising, but as I look around my office and see Spider-Man art and memorabilia galore, it feels like a bit of a moot point.
