The White Bear Lake man responsible for a 2025 hit-and-run that took the life of a 72-year-old woman was sentenced Tuesday to two years in prison for her death.
The sentencing comes three months after Christopher Olson, 47, pleaded guilty to one count of criminal vehicular homicide. As part of the plea deal, prosecutors agreed to drop counts two and three.
According to the criminal complaint, the fatal incident happened on March 27, 2025, when Olson struck and killed the woman while driving under the influence of alcohol. Authorities said Olson immediately fled the scene, but turned himself in about 20 minutes later. At the police station, officials said Olson admitted to drinking vodka before getting in his vehicle and hitting the woman as she crossed the street.
A preliminary breath test later determined Olson's blood-alcohol level measured .154.
Olson told investigators he "panicked" and drove to his mother's nearby house immediately following the accident. She then reportedly convinced him to go to the police.
Olson was ordered to begin his incarceration on Tuesday at the St. Cloud prison with credit for two days already served.
